I have gotten Skyrim to load and have been able to start a new game. However when the intro movie plays it crashes soon after it starts(sometimes before anything shows on the screen).
Skyrim settings under advanced Texture High: High Radical Blur Quality: High Shadow Quality: High Decal Quality: None
Water: Reflect everything
I am running Gentoo ~amd64 fully updated with the 3.1 kernel using the latest NVIDIA drivers.
CPU: Intel i7 Sandybridge 2600K MEM: 8G Video: NVIDIA GTX 570 VRAM: 1280M

Not 100% if this is related but when I set texture quality to ultra I get a different error. The crash also happens before the game intro even starts.

Please try increasing reported memory size to say 1500MB. Or even 2000MB.

Nevermind. I had my settings too high. Using Skyrim settings under advanced Texture High: High Radical Blur Quality: High Shadow Quality: Medium Decal Quality: High
with no problems.

Perhaps I have the registry key in the wrong location? Mine is in HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Wine -> Direct3D and has name "VideoMemorySize" of rtype REG_DWORD and value 0x00000600 (1536)

Create the following registry key folder if it does not already exist HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Wine/Direct3D
Add the following 2 keys (note that the VideoMemorySize is a STRING type, not a dword as I figured it would be!!!):
VideoMemorySize (set this value to your graphics card's VRAM in megabytes) OffscreenRenderingMode (set to backbuffer)
Launch Skyrim with WINEDEBUG=-all so you don't get millions of fixme lines printed (which will slow down the game)

I agree with Vlad. I have actively tested Skyrim since 2.19 and have not seen this issue.
@Reporter, can you please test this again (it has been 7 years since initial reporting) and verify if this issue still exists?
