Summary: Sonic Fan Remix Demo doesn't accept keyboard input Product: Wine Version: 1.3.5 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: VincentBeers@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=31510) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=31510) Initial terminal output
Game demo available on http://sonicresearch.org/sonicfanremix/SFRdemo.rar.torrent (Note: I am not sure how legal this game in itself is; it is a fan project based on licensed characters after all. Sega doesn't seem to be stopping them though.)
I have tried this game and found that while the graphics look good and don't cause any fixme's whatsoever, I cannot play the game because keyboard input is not read or accepted. Because of this, pressing enter (the default key for "start") at the title screen does absolutely nothing when it should be continued.
Terminal output is attached.
Tested on a clean Wineprefix, Ubuntu 10.10 with Wine 1.3.5.

--- Comment #1 from Vincent Beers VincentBeers@gmail.com 2010-10-25 07:19:35 CDT --- I have found three other bugs about RegisterRawInputDevices. All are about mouse input not working. Perhaps this is related and would work if RegisterRawInputDevices got implemented?

Tried both winetricks win2k as well as defining Windows 2000 for the application itself in winecfg. Neither thing worked; input still doesn't work.
The terminal output is identical (with the exception of some memory address changes), which means that wine is still outputting things about RegisterRawInputDevices, even though I just read this function was only supported since Windows XP/Server 2003.

--- Comment #4 from Vincent Beers VincentBeers@gmail.com 2010-10-25 12:18:27 CDT --- Update: connecting an external keyboard halfway through (while Wine is running) mysteriously DOES make input work. Strange. When I did this, Wine spew out this message twice:
fixme:keyboard:X11DRV_ActivateKeyboardLayout 0x4090409, 0000: semi-stub!

--- Comment #5 from Andrew Millington andrew.millington@gmail.com 2010-10-25 23:59:19 CDT --- Pressing the enter in the lower right of my keyboard works for me and I'm not sure if the one in the center is supposed to work as I haven't got a Windows machine to test on.

It did for me in the one rare case that it decided to work. In all other cases, no key did anything.
