Summary: Sega Rally Revo - direct2drive version: will not launch Product: Wine Version: 1.1.43 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: mscoree AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: limited_choice@hotmail.com
Created an attachment (id=27484) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=27484) Output of 'wine "SEGA Rally Revo Launcher.exe" &> log'
AFAICT one needs to launch "SEGA Rally Revo Launcher.exe" to configure the game for the current hardware set ; without the data created by the launcher exe, the main game executable ("Sega Rally Revo.exe") crashes upon start.
Note: the launcher crash here spawns the microsoft .NET error reporting GUI..

--- Comment #1 from Andrew Nguyen arethusa26@gmail.com 2010-04-20 21:26:34 --- It looks like you don't have the Managed DirectX assemblies installed; you may have no choice but to install the directx9 redist from winetricks, as I can't think of any better source for those.

Good call!...although strangely, directx9 runtime (and .NET 2.0) were actually installed previous to the installation of the game itself. Taking your insight onboard however and reinstalling directx9 with winetricks, did actually get the game running. I'm not sure exactly what may be at play here, but, I'll redo the installation a few times and see if I can ascertain why reinstalling directx apparently fixes it.
Thanks Andrew.

--- Comment #3 from Mr Nobody limited_choice@hotmail.com 2010-04-21 09:49:58 --- Would it be that those assemblies are not created/installed unless .NET 2.0 SP2 is installed -prior- to the installation of directx runtime? If that is the case, that's what probably what happened here -- I did have .NET 2.0 & directx9 installed, but did install .NET 2.0 SP2 subsequently in my attempts to get things running....

Austin - I'm currently stuck between a rock & a tight place with this title -- with direct2drive recently moving their operations over to 'gamefly', I haven't been able to access/check/run/play/use any of my D2D purchases due to issues their end -- so just an fyi as such, this bug not forgotten, but, my hands are tied..

...just house-keeping -- the gamefly service recently rolled out to my locale, and as such I can now access my games purchased thru the old direct2drive service. Unfortunately speaking the gamefly client itself is currently broken in wine and won't install any titles...

--- Comment #8 from Mr Nobody limited_choice@hotmail.com 2013-07-19 22:59:51 CDT --- ... another years passes, and after all this waiting, this game I bought 2+ years ago has turned up again...
In the interim, the gamefly client (the version of rally revo I have) has come a long way - likewise can be said for wine. I just had a hard swing at it, and found the game itself.. sega rally revo ... now actually runs quite well, however there's all sorts of nonsense with DRM integration with the gamefly client, and how that client handles things ... all unassociated problems here.
Last time I saw this game running in wine, it was nowhere near as good as it runs now in wine-1.6 ; framerates were slow/jerky, menu transitions took forever, and animated menu backgrounds clunked along a 5fps -- now, these issues all seem resolved, fps is smooth and constant, menus all working as they should, so I'm going to mark this as resolved/fixed wrt wine-1.6
Thanks to all.
