--- Comment #2 from Béla Gyebrószki gyebro69@gmail.com --- Does it help if you disable gameoverlayrenderer.dll in winecfg's libraires tab?

--- Comment #3 from jeremy jeremy.006@gmail.com --- Unfortunately no, it doesn't change things. I have also disabled dwrite due to the known steam issues with invisible text.
Basically the screen goes black as if it was starting, and then the wine "an error has occurred" message shows up with the crashdump.
As far as I can tell, everything is maximally updated, including steam and the game.

I asked you to disable gameoverlayrenderer because I also have the game on Steam and it indeed crashes on start when Steam overlay is enabled, but it starts properly if I disable gameoverlayrenderer. I'm on Linux (Fedora 21 32bits) btw.

--- Comment #5 from jeremy jeremy.006@gmail.com --- Interesting. Could you please post a crashdump of your system when gameoverlayrenderer is enabled?

It's different than yours, possibly bug #35361: http://pastebin.com/JmH96TZv
I have everything set to built-in except d3dx9_36: the configuration tool of Sonic Generations needs native. And I don't have a game controller/joystick attached. Could you attach the full terminal output?

--- Comment #8 from jeremy jeremy.006@gmail.com --- aha! just noticed the issue. Following http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=167002&p=858944 allows it to start up.

--- Comment #9 from Ken Sharp imwellcushtymelike@gmail.com --- How much memory does your graphics adapter have?

--- Comment #10 from jeremy jeremy.006@gmail.com --- None dedicated (I think), running on an Intel Iris via a Macbook Pro Retina. I have 16GB of system RAM though, so shouldn't be a problem.

--- Comment #11 from super_man@post.com --- So the problem is most likely something like that wine doesn't recognize your gpu and sets the videomemory amount too low.
