Summary: Thief: Deadly Shadows mouse gets stuck after encountering barriers Product: Wine Version: CVS/GIT Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: wine-directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: ehoover@mines.edu
Thief: Deadly Shadows locks the mouse (intentionally) when you encounter a barrier such as a wall. Unfortunately, when this lock is performed under Wine it does not get released after you move away from the barrier. The lock stays there until you open a menu; however, this can be worked around by assigning keystrokes to rotate the player left and right.

--- Comment #2 from Erich Hoover ehoover@mines.edu 2008-04-16 10:21:06 --- Yes, this is still a problem in the latest wine. I've attached a link to the demo.
Note: With another game I was told not to report mouse issues against the direct input component.

--- Comment #3 from Alexander Dorofeyev alexd4@inbox.lv 2008-06-11 15:09:15 --- I can't reproduce this in wine-1.0-rc4. I do see the usual mouse bug #6971, but I don't see anything unusual when going towards the barrier. I tried walking towards regular walls and barriers that can be climbed. What exactly is needed to reproduce? Is this supposed to happen every time on collision w/ an obstacle, or only occasionally?

--- Comment #4 from Karol Szambelańczyk carl117@o2.pl 2008-06-14 05:16:20 --- The mouse get stuck when pointer moves to border of screen, you have to open main menu to center pointer, and then you can rotate view in game again. The bug is that you can't rotate the view in game more then 360.

This is exactly what bug#6971 is about, it is a major bug that affects tons of games in Wine including Thief 3.
But this bug appears to be about a separate problem.

--- Comment #6 from Erich Hoover ehoover@mines.edu 2008-06-15 12:24:14 --- I'm sorry I haven't had a chance to test this recently, I've been working a lot more jobs than I was expecting this summer (I actually need to head off for a meeting now, ugh!). If I remember correctly, the easiest way to reproduce this bug is to walk up to a wall and use the "hide against the wall" key to cause garret to suck himself against the wall. When you do this the game limits your movement to the 180 degrees (or less, depending the wall) facing away from the wall (if I recall correctly, this was done properly); however, when you "unhide" from the wall you are still limited to those angles as if you were still against the wall.

--- Comment #7 from Alexander Dorofeyev alexd4@inbox.lv 2008-06-15 13:12:20 --- I guess you mean the "R" key (in the demo) or "wall flatten" as it is called in options. Well I tried it and can't see any difference. The mouse is broken all the time limiting the rotation to a little more than 180 degrees. Attaching / detaching to/from the wall doesn't seem to make any obvious difference on this. If there is something, it must have a minor effect. Are you sure what you saw was not this usual mouselook problem (bug#6971) but something else?
