Summary: Installing Gecko Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: mshtml AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: nigel_galloway@yahoo.com
Instructions for installing Gecko are at: http://wiki.winehq.org/Gecko
These state that Wine looks for it at /usr/share/wine/gecko.
After putting it there and trying several times I found that for my distribution of Wine 1.1.20 the location is specified by an entry in 'user.reg'.

--- Comment #1 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-05-11 07:44:10 --- What does: $ ls -al /usr/share/wine/gecko show?
It's specified in user.reg as well, yes, but that's only used if /usr/share/wine/gecko doesn't have it.

--- Comment #2 from Nigel Galloway nigel_galloway@yahoo.com 2009-05-13 06:43:05 --- First I tried the instructions as described in the documentation above as: 'sudo mv wine_gecko-0.9.1.cab /usr/share/wine/gecko/'
When I tried to run Wine it could not find VERSION file. I thought this was probably wrong and that the cab file needed to be uncabbed. This I did in /usr/share/wine/gecko/. Wine could still not find it.
I then found the entry in user.reg which pointed to C:\Program Files\gecko. I have made this a soft link to /usr/share/wine/gecko and I can now start IE.

--- Comment #4 from Jacek Caban jacek@codeweavers.com 2009-08-30 07:35:44 ---
The relevant bit of user.reg is:
[Software\Wine\MSHTML\0.9.1] 1242244459 "GeckoPath"="C:\windows\gecko\0.9.1\wine_gecko"
These registries are strange and shouldn't exist. Do they exist on fresh wine prefix? If yes, what distribution do you use?
Closing INVALID.
