--- Comment #10 from sniff@wippies.com 2008-12-26 11:47:22 --- Fresh retail dvd install doesn't throw this specific error, although failing to run for me also. Starting UT3.exe after upgrading with UT3Patch3.exe gives the wine c++ runtime error mentioned here, even with 1.1.11 and wine-git from today (20081226). I'm trying installing ut3 with winxp profile with default settings which seemingly works, OS is Ubuntu Intrepid on amd64 platform with recent upgrades. I've tried installing with default settings, also with --enable-win64, and in a 32bit chroot intrepid. Several installs with all these combinations, i still fail to get even to the main menu of the game. Upgrading ut3 with patch3 always reproduces c++ runtime error for me. videocard is 9800gt and nvidia drivers 173 and 177 (and unofficial 180.11) were tested. ut3 was reinstalled in a newly created ~/.wine/ with different wine versions.
What is similar (but not necessarily related) with all crashes is a console message like this (so few lines i paste them here): fixme:d3d:IWineD3DImpl_FillGLCaps OpenGL implementation supports 32 vertex samplers and 32 total samplers fixme:d3d:IWineD3DImpl_FillGLCaps Expected vertex samplers + MAX_TEXTURES(=8) > combined_samplers fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x22ae13c,0x00000000), stub! err:d3d:getColorBits Unsupported format: WINED3DFMT_A16B16G16R16F
This unsupported format message occurs regardless of the bitdepth i set via command line to startx. i tried 16, 24 besides the default (32?) set by nvidia-auto-select. also sampler messages seem to occur on every run. other messages vary depending on wine version and further configurations with winecfg.

Did not work with UT3 1.0, but it wouldn't throw this error message. Updated to 2.0 and installed Titan Pack, and this message comes up.

--- Comment #13 from Cristian cristian.fernandez.v@gmail.com 2009-05-04 03:52:38 --- The game never works, I installed the game, and have problems with frequency on my monitor (LG L1953T, nvdia 7900gt), then I installed patch 2.0 and throws the message fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x22ae13c,0x00000000), stub!, and after that, I installed wine 1.1.20 (previous version was 1.0.1, Kubuntu 9.04), and throws the messages of the attached file.

--- Comment #24 from Daniel Harvison sirbubbles01@yahoo.com.au 2009-10-01 03:02:07 --- I've found that after a game tries to install the C++ library or something similar, you need to uninstall it, often by removing the installed files from /windows/system32 under your wine profile's c drive Only after that can you successfully install it using winetricks. Hope this helps.
You could always try this under a new wineprefix, as in "export WINEPREFIX=~/putnamehere" to create a new prefix.

--- Comment #25 from Dane Mutters dmutters@gmail.com 2009-10-01 11:05:34 --- Thanks for the idea, Daniel.
What exactly needs to be removed (and then reinstalled with winetricks)? I've already installed UT3 into its own WINEPREFIX.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14076
--- Comment #26 from Daniel Harvison sirbubbles01@yahoo.com.au 2009-10-01 11:46:11 --- If I recall correctly, you need to go to /windows/system32/ and remove the mfc80.dll, msvcp80.dll and msvcr80,dll files. There should also be a folder named MICROSOFT.Net or something like that in the system32 folder as well. Remove those, use winetricks to install vcrun2005 and vcrun2005 sp1.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14076
--- Comment #27 from Dane Mutters dmutters@gmail.com 2009-11-09 18:16:51 --- Again, thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, after installing the game from the DVD, those files and the directory do not exist, and thus cannot be removed.
From my experience, the game seems to work fine until I install the bonus and
titan packs. I don't know which one seems to break it, because I installed them one right after the other. I have installed vcrun2005 and vcrun2005sp1 using winetricks, to no effect.
