Summary: Supreme Commander's FMVs do not skip frames Product: Wine Version: CVS/GIT Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: wine-directx AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: ajrich@earthlink.net
This bug causes the videos to move slower than they're supposed to, and desync with sound (if you've made the changes needed to get sound from the game - see the AppDB for details.) Affects mission briefings in the campaign, and messages recieved during campaign missions.

--- Comment #2 from haarp liquitsnake@gmx.net 2007-08-25 09:13:24 --- Also, I noticed that the movies get slower the more CPU time is used by other tasks (eg. the actual game) Maybe a simple patch that assigns the FMVs a higher CPU priority would fix this

--- Comment #5 from haarp liquitsnake@gmx.net 2007-08-25 17:45:08 --- That will only make it worse by allowing background processes to get more CPU time. What you're suggesting is giving the whole game a different priority, which won't fix anything. We need the FMVs to get a higher priority, which can only be accomplished by Wine Furthermore, that is no real fix, but it would get rid of this bug

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9447
--- Comment #7 from haarp liquitsnake@gmx.net 2008-01-28 13:51:57 --- Yes. This bug is still present in 0.9.54
May I add that it affects gameplay by delaying the campaign until videos are fully played, which may take quite some time ingame?

--- Comment #12 from Jérôme Gardou jerome.gardou@laposte.net 2009-02-22 15:16:01 --- This bug still occurs in wine 1.1.15. Could someone with a windows machine verify something : The game as a builtin frame counter, activated with the "/" key.
When played with wine, cybran campaign movies (the one with Dostya and Brackman) play at 30 fps, and are at half speed. Could someone verify how much fps they have on real windows machine?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9447
--- Comment #13 from M.Kiesel winehq.org@continuity.cjb.net 2009-02-23 11:06:33 --- In Windows, the main SC UI (choosing faction) is 60fps. The full-screen video introduction for the Cybran campaign (Dostya and Brackman welcoming the commander, UEF to fall in 42 days) is about 50fps. The first mission briefing (partially video) is 15-30fps (mostly 20fps).

--- Comment #14 from Jérôme Gardou jerome.gardou@laposte.net 2009-02-24 02:44:11 --- I suspect glTestFenceNV to be broken on newer NVIDIA driver (has it ever worked?), and wine's implementation of event queries to be fuzzy.
Unfortunately, the first problem make the second one hard to solve. Did anyone try to get it working on MacOS X ?

--- Comment #15 from Tomi Pieviläinen tpievila@cc.hut.fi 2009-05-07 07:37:18 --- The newest version of Supreme Commander (1.1.3254) doesn't have this issue (at least in wine 1.1.20). But as mentioned in the howto, winetricks is needed to install the patch.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9447
--- Comment #16 from haarp liquitsnake@gmx.net 2009-05-07 12:30:32 --- I can confirm that the intro plays flawlessly in 1.1.20 (but this could also be the case because of my CPU upgrade). The ingame movies however still lag behind the sound.

--- Comment #23 from Béla Gyebrószki gyebro69@gmail.com --- Please retest with a recent Wine, e.g. 1.7.22 I tested this bug with the demo version as well as the Steam version, and would say it's fixed: the out-of-sync issue is present in Wine 1.4 for me, but videos/mission briefings work normally in 1.6/1.7.22.
