--- Comment #2 from Christoph Korn c_korn@gmx.de 2009-05-22 17:42:58 --- The problem is also in wine-1.1.22.
Seems to be related to DirectX7.
Is there some DLL I should take from windows to solve it.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18560
--- Comment #3 from Christoph Korn c_korn@gmx.de 2009-06-06 10:00:57 --- The problem still exists in wine-1.2.23.
What debug channel can give some information about the issue?

In wine there are also no stars drawn when the space ship drives in warp mode.

--- Comment #7 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2009-06-10 10:45:05 --- Why is this set to Windows 98?
This game looks ancient, is it available for download?
You could give winetricks d3dx9 a try, see if it makes any difference. http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18560
--- Comment #8 from Christoph Korn c_korn@gmx.de 2009-06-10 18:34:42 --- Well I though older games should work better than the latest ones.
However, it is not available for free although it is old.
But if you like the game or want to give it a try: http://www.amazon.com/Starfleet-Academy-Pc/dp/B00001QERI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&... :P
Ok, now serious: I can do the tests for you. Just advice me.
Installing directx9 with ./winetricks d3dx9 did not change the situation.
It also seems to be a DirectX7 game.

--- Comment #9 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2009-06-10 18:56:21 --- To be honest, I didn't think it would help, but it was worth a try.
Probably due to all of these: err:d3d7:IDirect3DDeviceImpl_3_GetRenderState Unexpected texture stage state setup, returning D3DTBLEND_MODULATE - likely erroneous fixme:d3d_surface:IWineD3DSurfaceImpl_BltOverride Implement hardware blit between two surfaces on the same swapchain
Someone more knowledgeable than me will suggest a debug channel readout when needed.
Just out of interest, have you tried Wine 1.0.1?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18560
--- Comment #10 from Christoph Korn c_korn@gmx.de 2009-06-11 04:48:00 --- It is the same in wine-1.0.1.

Still a bug in current wine (3.11) ?
As far as I can see, this bug was fixed somewhere between Wine 1.9.20 and .24. The crosshair and the stars when warping are visible in recent Wine versions. I tested with the GOG.com version and started the game with the executable 'sfad3d.exe'.
Marking as fixed (feel free to reopen if you still have the issue).
