err:winediag:wined3d_dll_init The GLSL shader backend has been disabled. You get to keep all the pieces if it breaks.
Does it work any better if you don't disable GLSL?

In general, make sure the issue still happen in a new/clean WINEPREFIX. But it looks like this is going to need real debugging.

--- Comment #9 from sworddragon2@aol.com --- You can create a new Wine profile if you set the environment variable WINEPREFIX to something like ~/.wine-test. This would create the directory ~/.wine-test with a new profile. Alternatively you could also rename temporary the default profile ~/.wine for example to ~/.wine_old and start Wine as usual. In either case you have to reinstall Guild Wars and test then again if this issue still appears.

On my system this issue doesn't appear on Wine 1.8.0. Maybe Fen hit just a regression if a clean Wine profile doesn't solve this issue for him.

--- Comment #13 from infounit.freddy@yahoo.com --- switching to discrete graphics would solve this problem, but .. dat noise ;.;
hopefully someone knows what the root of this bug may be, so people with no discrete graphics can use this important feature ;)

You mean it works not on your integrated graphics chip while it works on your dedicated graphics card?

yes, exactly. thinkpad w520 here with nvidia optimus 1000m. i also read something like this on some forum, some guy said it would work if he switches to his dedicated graphics card in his laptop

--- Comment #16 from sworddragon2@aol.com --- Based on the specification the integrated graphics chip should be an "Intel HD Graphics 3000 DX10.1". I'm not sure how graphics switching is done on your system (reboot or during runtime) but since the 2 graphic devices are from different manufacturers they might use 2 different drivers. And since it works with the NVIDIA one I think this is a driver bug and not a Wine bug. Also I have rechecked this issue with Wine 2.0 RC5 (GeForce GTX 650 with the proprietary NVIDIA driver version 367.57) and the mission map looks fine.
Which drivers are you using with your dedicated and integrated graphics device?

thank you for further looking into this issue!
so after some fiddling, reinstalling libraries drivers etc i'm not much smarter as before :D
it works fine with nouveau and nvidia and doesnt with i915, thats all i can tell as far as the driver modules goes.
here's my console output when starting and also entering the game and opening the mission map, if it is any use: http://pastebin.com/nNmwr9tD
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40513
--- Comment #18 from sworddragon2@aol.com --- The i915 chipset should be the third generation and is probably using the xf86-video-intel driver package. But this package hasn't seen much upstream activity for some time and several distributions made it more or less deprecated for 4th generation intel chipsets by using the xf86-video-modesetting driver instead. Unfortunately your chipset is too old otherwise I would ask you to change the driver to see if it changes anything. I still think this is a driver issue and should be closed but somebody else should evaluate this. In this case I recommend you to post this bug to the xf86-video-intel package (either upstream or at your distribution tracker).

--- Comment #19 from infounit.freddy@yahoo.com --- i see, thank you, but perhaps I'll just leave it at that for now, as i'm using my integrated graphics card anyways for playing, so my laptop doesnt run too hot. thank you again for the help. are you an active player btw?
