Hi All,
Would you please consider supporting rpm build for tar ball (rpmbuild -ta tarball). This would surely go a long way to getting a bunch of us our of RPM hell.
Many thanks, -T

How is this a Wine bug?
Hi Dmitry,
Of course this is not a "Wine Bug". I think in your haste to close this, you forgot to read the part about this being an "enhancement". "enhancements" are not "bugs".
The point of my "enhancement" request was that you follow the protocols required to create RPM's from tarballs. This would mean that anyone could create an RPM whenever they wanted and not be left to the mercies of others. And, replying on the mercies of others means we either have to suffer with being constantly out of date or have to compile Wine on every single machine we have responsibility for. And that is a real pain in the ....
I would appreciate you sending this on to the developers for their considerations.
Many thanks, -T

--- Comment #4 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-10-11 15:57:12 --- Wine itself only provides source code. The binaries are all volunteers. In the case of rpm's, that's http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/AndreasBierfert/Wine. I'd suggest contacting him.

Wine itself only provides source code.
Hi Austin,
Wine provides tarballs with the source code that you can compile yourself. What I would like is for that tarball to also include the directory with the information for "rpmbuild -ta" to also compile the tarball. This information is already know to the developers, as they have to use it in their dependency checks. The developers could probably create this directory with a script, so they do not have to do it over and over.
This would go a long way to easing RPM hell.
Many thanks, -T

--- Comment #6 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2009-10-11 17:53:42 --- RedHat's and SuSE RPMs are different. Also Wine gives much more freedom to packagers then other projects that distribute rpm's .spec files. Also note that some packages for RedHat/SuSE have some things disabled/removed from Wine which is not acceptable for the vanila Wine project. Also all extras that packagers add to Wine are not acceptable into vanilla Wine.
For all those reasons we won't include rpm .spec files into vanilla Wine.
