This path contains Skype's HTML login form - such HTML is currently not
supported in Wine (bug 28457), thus you have to delete it.

This file is not in that path, I have no idea why Skype fails to open it.

I couldn't find that file in my Windows 8.1 and Windows XP SP3 installations
either - it's possible that this file is embedded into Skype's binary and then
it gets loaded on start up.

They asked me to make a test for wine, but I was unable to create a dependency
between two typelibs, as in Skype binary. So there is no way to know if Windows
behaves like the patch or not.

I'm confused here -- guillaume.charifi said he was unable to create a test
case, and then filed an alternate bug #36529 (which got nixed) which actually
did have a test case, supposedly. So were you ultimately able to create a test
case and thus the fix for this bug might actually be able to be committed?

BTW, in newer Wine versions

has to be removed/renamed in order to see a login screen.

Patched against 1.7.11 from git pulledon July 12, 2014

Patch applied cleanly with a few Whitespace Errors

Built fine, installed Skype 6.18.0.15 and it crashed after the initial screen.

I deleted the Login.cab file and ran Skype.exe and it loaded fine.

It didn't detect my sound/camera etc but I think that's moreto do with the
barebones wine setup than anything else.

I'm curious, if you use the /legacylogin parameter with Skype, is deleting
login.cab still required?

It's too bad Microsoft tends to not update the Linux Skype client much. Getting
the Windows client to work seems to still be important right now unless they
change their mind about it.

I just moved Login.cab back and tried with /legacylogin , it seems to work
fine. I then tried it without /legacylogin and it brought up a login page
without any styling and no button to actually login with.

Well, that's fine, with pleasure.
The sound is a bit buggy, most of the time it will simply not work, but the
sound card can miraculously be recognized from time to time...
The camera does not work at all, probably due to a missing Wine implementation.

Are you sure this is the same error as reported by this bug? Although "runtime
error 217" isn't clear, a bit of Googling around appears to say it means an
unknown exception was thrown. That could be literally anything.

This is the same error as the one which is being discussed in this bug report.
Next time paste a complete application log to avoid ambiguities (if it's more
than 20 lines long it's worth adding it as an attachment).
