Summary: Memory Map using IE4 won't load on AMD 64 bit Product: Wine Version: 1.1.42 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: peter@peterwpaintings.co.uk
I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a Dell Vostro 1000 using an AMD 64 processor. I loaded wine 1.1.42 using synaptic and ran wine config.
I tried to use the wine loader to load the M$ windows based program called Memory Map. This will not run unless a version of IE 4 (or higher) is installed. The installation failed with the error message "IE4 or higher is required" (can't remember the exact wording).
I tried various fixes as noted in this link: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1472132
but the only way I could get Memory Map to run under wine was to install the 32 bit version of Ubuntu 10.04.

--- Comment #2 from peter@peterwpaintings.co.uk 2010-05-05 08:35:12 --- Sorry; I have replaced the 64 bit Operating System with the 32 bit alternative and can no longer reproduce the fault so I can't attach the text output.

--- Comment #3 from Juan Lang juan_lang@yahoo.com 2010-05-05 11:42:22 --- Is the program available anywhere? If not, we'll probably have to close this abandoned.

--- Comment #5 from peter@peterwpaintings.co.uk 2010-05-06 02:43:26 --- Yes, that is the memory map site.
I am using version 5.1.3 which can be downloaded from here: http://www.memory-map.co.uk/downloads/mmv5/mmv5_os_513.exe
There was a licence registration issue with later versions under wine.
You can load the program without a licence.
Good luck

--- Comment #6 from Andrew Nguyen arethusa26@gmail.com 2010-05-06 03:33:16 --- I can reproduce neither the IE4 prerequisite complaint nor a Memory-Map Navigator startup failure with a clean Wine prefix in wine-1.1.43-564-g1af1784, so I think I'll take the liberty of abandoning this bug. If you can reproduce the license issue that you mention, then please open a new bug.

--- Comment #7 from Andrew Nguyen arethusa26@gmail.com 2010-05-06 03:33:55 --- I forgot to mention that the testing was done on a Fedora 11 x86_64 machine. Closing the bug.

--- Comment #8 from peter@peterwpaintings.co.uk 2010-05-06 06:45:04 --- OK.
In due course (a few weeks time) I will do a fresh Ubuntu install on the AMD64 machine and try to reproduce the bug again. If I can reproduce the bug I will raise a new report. I was thrown by not being able to run applications from a CD with the new release of Ubuntu. My thrashing around may have corrupted something.
Thanks for looking into this.
