This error happens on a Ubuntu 8.04 machine with wine 1.0 rc5

Not AppDB bug. How did you installed Photoshop?

Sorry I'm new here and newbie on Linux..
First i installed the missing MS times32 fonts, than i put the PS CD in my
drive and follow the instructions. I have entered a 100% legal an working
serial..anyway it's not working.

Google says, i'm not the only one with that problem, so i decide to write it
down here. I hope, i'm right here?

CS2 installs and runs well for me on Wine 1.0 apart from some window layering
bugs that may have more to do with KDE4 than Wine (which I've mentioned
elsewhere - http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13987)

Can you try reinstalling and re-activating the application with a fresh Wine
1.0 release?

i have encountered this as well it seems to be related to Times32 font if i
copyed my photoshopCS2 installation from my windows XP machine including
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Adobe/ registry folder after adding both to wine it
works fine the first time if i close photoshop and try to open it again i get
the "hardware error" [see bug 9623] deleting the folder
c:\windows\profile[name]\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\9.0\Adobe Photoshop
CS2 Settings will make photoshop start fine again. 
if i install the font i don't get the hardware error but i then get this  "
Your Adobe Photoshop
user name, organization or serial number is missing or invalid. The application
cannot continue and must now exit."
that's all i know so far

I can confirm that I am experiencing the same behavior as Robert using Wine
1.0.1 from the Ubuntu Jaunty repository on Linux Mint 7. I copied the Photoshop
CS2 installation from my Windows XP computer.

I upgraded to wine 1.1.33 using the PPA and I am getting the same error.
Removing the ttf-mscorefonts-installer package did not change anything.

To recap:
First boot up was fine. Actually it crashed the first time. The second time was
OK except it behaved weirdly when I made a new file. I closed it and restarted,
go the hardware error message, so I installed times32 through the link on the
Photoshop entry in wine app db. After that I started getting the serial number
error described in this bug.

Hi, I've discovered the error and how to fix it.
- All the people who's getting this error had installed a translated patch in
the photoshop dir and this is the cause.

How to fix it? Easy, just open translate file and delete 1 line.
The file is ../Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS2/Required/tw10428.dat
Just open it with gedit for example and delete this
line:"$$$/override/region=8"

In your file could be any other number instead of 8, just use search(Ctrl+F) to
find it.

This fix "Your Adobe Photoshop
user name, organization or serial number is missing or invalid. The application
cannot continue and must now exit." bug. Just remember to fill fields "Name"
and "Organization" installing the program.
