Summary: System tray icons show garbage on the margin Product: Wine Version: 1.2-rc2 Platform: x86-64 URL: http://www.utorrent.com/downloads/complete?os=win OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: trivial Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: alexandru.balut@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=28438) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=28438) The system tray icons of both the first application and the second show garbage.
Basically, every time an icon is added, some garbage appears on the margins of the icon.
Steps to reproduce: - Make sure you have a Notification Area applet in the panel. Make sure it shows the keyboard layout status icon. - Notice every time you start an exe which registers a system tray icon, the icon is drawn twice, the second time a few pixels lower. (see the foobar2000 icon in the attached screenshot)
Please tell me whether I should file a separate bug for this very similar problem: - Start a second application that registers a system tray icon, notice the icon of the first application shows some garbage on the margin. (see the uTorrent icon in the attached screenshot - in this case the garbage is from the "USA" text, more specifically the left part of the "A" character)
Some more info: If you move the mouse over the uTorrent icon, it gets redrawn and the garbage disappears. This does not seem to happen with foobar2000.
You can get these applications from the following URLs: http://www.foobar2000.org/download http://www.utorrent.com/downloads/complete?os=win
Ubuntu 10.04 64, Metacity

Hi Alex, do you see that problem with total commander when setup to "send icon to system tray when minimized"? I opened total cmd 4 times at once and saw correctly 4 small icons under wine-1.2-rc2. Unfortunately i'm not familiar with yours two apps.

Hi Alex, do you see that problem with total commander when setup to "send icon to system tray when minimized"?
It also happens with Total Commander 7.50a.
In the attached screenshot you can see three Total Commander system tray icons: - on the right is TC in Vista, notice the light shadow. - in the middle is the first TC instance in Wine, this one looks almost fine, but the shadow is very dark, on Vista it is much lighter; - on the left is the second TC instance in Wine, this one seems to be the result of drawing the same icon twice, the second time being the correct position (2 pixels lower). You can clearly see this if you look at the shadow.
Sometimes they show up correctly, but most of the time the icons have garbage on the margin.
For example if I start VLC, then Total Commander, then uTorrent, I get three icons in the Notification Area, and in the middle it shows a TC icon on top of a VLC icon..

--- Comment #8 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com 2012-10-05 08:37:54 CDT --- This bug happens only in Gnome2, it does not affect KDE or XFCE. I can rarely reproduce it now a days. Maybe abandoned is the proper solution as no new messages were posted here despite the fact that maybe Gnome3 fixed the issue. If anyone is able to test in more recent versions of Gnome and the bug is not happening anymore feel free to change to UPSTREAM.
