Could you change the title of this bug report to reflect what is going on? I mean
"I am able to install the Launcher. however as soon as installation/updates are complete, the window crashes into a small box at the upper right corner of my screen, then crashes comepletely after that"
is a bit vague, no?

bug 40767. If you can compile your wine yourself you can test this patch if it helps.

But as super-man said, this looks very much like a duplicate of bug 40767. As an exercise you can compile wine yourself but if you are short on time you can wait for bug 40767 to be resolved and test a newer packaged wine version then.

This workaround is no longer needed. I watched some netflix and let wine download the updates and suddenly it popped up a dialogue about directx how to use some command line options...sounds like something is wrong.
The installer itself just vanishes.

I can confirm this, it looks like the application creates process
dxdiag /dontskip /whql:off /treport.txt
i guess wine`s dxdiag needs to handle better then it does now...
The application also suffers from bug 42014, hack or Staging lets the application start

I tried winetricks -q dxdiagn and got similar result, then I was thinking that maybe I had wrong recipe and I wrote winetricks -q dxdiag and that downloaded more stuff and did different set of overrides. But still not working.

Hello everyone,
I had a previous installation of the Launcher on my system and ran it from the start menu of LXDE on my openSUSE Tumbleweed system with wine 2.7.
The launcher started up and even downloaded some things but closes right afterwards.
I tried "winetricks -q vcrun2012" and "winetricks -q vcrun2013" but that didn't help.
Console output also hasn't been quite revealing and I am attaching this output to this bug report.

--- Comment #22 from Fabian Maurer dark.shadow4@web.de --- Using wine2.8-staging in a 64bit prefix. Seems to work, but spams the console with
err:d3d:context_reacquire Acquired context 0x8188e10 instead of 0x8187ac0.
and gives a dxdiag error. If you ignore that, you can still login though.
Launcher can't be exited without the taskmanager to kill it though, the icon in the taskbar doesn't quit with the context menu option "Quit".
If restarting the launcher after that, it errors with
fixme:advapi:RegisterEventSourceW ((null),L"BugSplat"): stub fixme:advapi:ReportEventW (0xcafe4242,0x0001,0x0000,0x00000001,(nil),0x0003,0x00000000,0x33ec4c,(nil)): stub err:eventlog:ReportEventW L"cdp_client" err:eventlog:ReportEventW L"BethesdaNetLauncher" err:eventlog:ReportEventW L"1811800"

I didnt personally test the patch(es) from there, but it's easy to believe.
I 1st tried with wine 2.8-git and it didnt go as far as with wine-staging. Because of the mentioned patches maybe.
With (fresh wineprefix) wine-staging 2.8 it goes as far as login window and bottom of the screen has some icon for the application (taskbar?).
I do get lots of
err:d3d:context_reacquire Acquired context 0x1e9970 instead of 0x81785b8.
and I still get the direcxt error popup, but it seesm to be nothing fatal.

Could you retest with more recent wine-staging? They included a patch that handles better the dxdiag popup message. Also I remember having no issues quiting the program last time I Tried. I don't have login details so it doesn't make much sense for me to test this. And last time I tried it went quite well already.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40838
--- Comment #25 from winetest@luukku.com --- I retested this now.
I made an account to myself and used local copy of bethesda launcher. The systray shows show and quit options, but trying to quit indeed doesn't seem to work. Wine-staging has fixed the dxdiag popup message you don't see it anymore. I didn't try to install any of the games since I don't have any of the lisences...
The only issues I could see was trying to quit from systray hang the application. The installer updates itself you are able to login in with valid account. Browsing various games works just fine.

--- Comment #26 from mirh mirh@protonmail.ch --- There should be some free licenses now (the creation kits, quake champions and older wolfenstein and TES). I couldn't get any to install though. You just see the "bethesda square rolling", and after some seconds nothing happens.
Also you still have to kill it for the thing to actually close (which perhaps has something to do with the CancelSynchronousIo stub, like in bug 47441).
Anyway this bug should probably be closed. It's just too much.. all over the place.
