I have been trying to play City of Heroes using Wine on Ubuntu. It's mostly
working pretty good, but I seem to be consistently getting very bad behavior
from the game when I try to open the contacts list/window. Sometimes, when I'm
lucky, the game just runs very slowly, rendering about 1 frame every 3-5
seconds, until I close the contacts list. Other times, the video card graphics
get corrupted so badly that I have to power off the computer and power it back
on to be able to use the computer again.

Runs but slowly - minor.

Any terminal output? If so - attach as file.

Also you should check for any video driver issues / hardware problems.

Ok, this appears that it may have been a driver issue. I'm using Ubuntu 7.10,
and they have two deb packages for nvidia drivers - nvidia-glx, and
nvidia-glx-new. I had been using the -new package. After downgrading to the
nvidia-glx package (which is an older version of the nvidia driver), the
problem appears to have gone away.
