Summary: StarCraft II doesn't start, no crash. Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: marcus.hambraeus@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=31263) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=31263) Terminal Output
When starting SC2, the application starts, but nothing happens. It doesn't draw anything on the screen (the screen doesn't go black, it just shows what was there before I started the application), but it grabs my cursor.
I'm running ubuntu 10.10 64-bit, wine 1.3.4 nvidia drivers 260.19.06

Ubuntu 10.04x64 NVidia - 195.36.24
Looks like same issue. I was playing last night. Updated today 7MB patch or so for 1.2. 1.1.2? I can't recall, but anyway after the update it failed to launch game when pressing 'play' which wasn't a surprise after so many similar issues during initial install and update. I tried launching and StarCraftII.exe and it freezes shortly after the window is created, and before the first frame is even rendered. I have tried with and without the regedit suggestions, virtual desktop, pasuspender. I would like to note that the error for alsa is something I have had since day 1, some years ago, and I can play WoW w/ sound even though I get that message. Also kind of strange that the process seems to fork itself and kill its parent, which seemed to limit what winedbg could do but I could be wrong-- but the normal executable you can see very plainly that the command prompt is returned.

** Don't know what the problem was, but I 'mv ~/.wine ~/.wine.bak' and tried again... voila **
I wish there was a better way to update/edit/delete posts, but anyway, I also went to 'winecfg' amd 1. go to DLL overrides, add "mmdevapi" and set it to "disabled" and set audio driver to OSS. (wow still works fine w/ ALSA but w/e).
This worked for me. I also then ran and did winetricks and selected "droid fontfix fontsmooth-rgb gdiplus gecko vcrun2008 vcrun2005 allfonts d3dx9 win7 " and it is still working ok.
Then I did the regedits as described on main sc2 page, and it still works ok with sound and everything.

--- Comment #8 from lubosz lubosz@gmail.com 2010-12-06 14:19:40 CST --- SC2 runs until this line is put out: fixme:wininet:InternetSetOptionW INTERNET_OPTION_SEND/RECEIVE_TIMEOUT 3000
After that it takes about 5 minutes for the game to start. It seems to be in a finite loop which takes a long time. The duration of the time changes. I suppose it's a race condition or web authorization issue.
It works immediately when i start the game through the level editor.

As the previous poster suggested, disable your network connection, start the game, re-enable it, and it just works!

--- Comment #16 from psehouri@gmail.com psehouri@gmail.com 2011-05-18 06:29:53 CDT --- Yes I confirm, the same problem occured with wine-1.3.19-332-gadcce5d
SC2 starts with Launcher waiting for a connection... who never come... even after 45 minutes...
The only way the bypass the problem is to deactivate network, then launch sc2 (I never saw sc2 starting so fast... ) and then, reactivate network.
All was working before patch 1.3.3 of sc2.
Hoping this will help someone...

--- Comment #17 from Ralf forum@planet64bit.de 2011-08-26 20:10:30 CDT --- I experienced the same bug now, after I wanted to test the new PTR. I guess this bug only happens, when SC2 checks for an update and founds it is out of date and then wants to start the patcher, but fails at it. I tried different things and found, that it is working, when I compile wine with USE="-gnutls -ssl" flags, tested with wine-1.3.24.
