Summary: Background is sometimes purple and the ending is not shown Product: Wine Version: 1.1.5 Platform: Other OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: maxmusterm@gmail.com CC: maxmusterm@gmail.com
Portal runs good (except from the mem consuming and the loosing on speed after playing a longer time [strangely it's not enough to kill wine, but to kill X ...]). Many times in the game I see a purple background most time when there is a wall/ground where i can't put a portal or bigger background i can't even touch like in the endscene (i attached a picture). The ending video is played to the place where the br0k3n mashine lands (the sky is purple too) After this scene I'm missing the scene with the cake, the game just hangs up at this time. I will attach the whole wine output unabridged because i don't want to keep back any information someone could use.

Don't change the original reported version.
We thaught the purple error could be the same as the Nvidia error but the Nvidia error is fixed in 1.1.6 and my purple background error still remains so what??The error is in 1.1.6 not only in 1.1.5

--- Comment #12 from Art Taylor theycallhimart@gmail.com 2010-05-18 13:41:28 --- What is the in-game shader detail option set to? With shader detail set to high and directx hardware level set to use version 8.x by using `-dxlevel 80` the same artifacts you describe occur on native windows xp. I cannot remember exactly but I believe this is repeatable on Windows 7 as well and this is independent of the graphics manufacturer.
My guess is that the metal material shading is enabled by selecting high detail shaders option but that the necessary functionality to render the effect is not present in source's directx 8 support, hence the purple rendering issue, and thus is not the fault of wine.
This does not address the hang issue.

--- Comment #13 from Art Taylor theycallhimart@gmail.com 2010-05-23 18:10:05 --- The purple issue maybe a bug with portal as the latest version as released free by steam does not exhibit this problem while an older release I have still does. Suggest closing this bug as invalid.

I second that motion. I recently played through to the end on high settings and did not notice this problem anywhere. I'm using Steam version Portal with ATI HD 2600 XT card. Wine 1.2-rc7
