I experience this issue on Ubuntu Intrepid, Wine 1.0.0, nvidia-glx-177 177.13-0ubuntu7 with my 7600GT. Notice how it seems to be leftover textures that shine at certain angles. These can be fixed by refreshing the screen (I switched to windowed/fullscreen in the video).
In the video I ran it in a Wine virtual desktop in order to get the video capture working properly, but the same issue occurs in fullscreen. With fullscreen, the issue disappears also by switching desktops back and forth.

--- Comment #25 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2010-11-24 07:27:56 CST --- The initial bug report was about when choosing a character. At least on my system (nvidia gt 240, wine-1.3.7), the character selection screen seems to work great. Maybe we should close this bug and open a new one for 3D problems in other areas of the game.
Tom, what graphics card do you have?

--- Comment #29 from David Hostetler negativesum@gmail.com 2011-04-13 23:08:57 CDT --- With wine 1.3.17 and fglrx 11.3, I observe the following:
- winecfg with 'Allow Pixel Shader' checked, the in-game login window does not render. Only the backdrop is rendered. I can type in my password (knowing that the login dialog has focus, even if it's not visible) and proceed to the character selection screen. However, the characters are rendered only as solid black.
If I uncheck 'Allow Pixel Shader' in winecfg, these problems go away and everything seems to function normally (the login window is visible, and the characters appear normal in the selection screen).
- in fullscreen mode, the mouse cursor does not render at all. I have to check 'Emulate a virtual desktop' in winecfg in order to get a cursor.

This is the term output when launching Gw.exe after having enabled 'Allow Pixel Shader' via winecfg. (Vertex Shader Support set to 'Hardware').
