Summary: Lemmings game clone (Lemmix): problems running under Wine. Product: Wine Version: 1.0.1 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: turbolad995@hotmail.co.uk
****This is the first time I've posted a bug report for Wine, so please bear with me if it's not perfect.****
If you try running Lemmix, only the background music works and none of the other sounds work. The mouse pointer is corrupt: it should be a "+" and change into a square when you move it over 1 or more lemmings. After playing 3 levels, the mouse stops working in the game.
You can try it yourself by downloading the Windows lemmings clone from: http://ericenzwaan.nl/eric/lemmings/lemmix.htm
Note: Lemmix is NOT a DOS program and it won't run in a DOS emulator such as DOSBox, despite the website showing "DOS" in the links.
I'm not a Linux or Wine expert.

--- Comment #1 from Andrew Nguyen arethusa26@gmail.com 2010-03-23 19:28:48 --- Please retest the game with the latest development version of Wine (1.1.41) and attach full terminal output (http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log). Also, please separate multiple issues into their own bug reports.

--- Comment #2 from David turbolad995@hotmail.co.uk 2010-03-23 19:52:48 --- I'm not very good at testing things in great depth and I'm still new to Linux. I'm using Ubuntu Linux and it won't let me install Wine version 1.1.41 - therefore, can someone with better knowledge do the testing? Also, if Wine 1.1.41 stops other things working, I don't know how to put the non-beta version back on. I'm used to the Windows method of adding or removing programs in the Control Panel. In Linux it's totally different and I don't want to mess things up.
I'm happy to report any problems and allow people with the right technical knowledge to undertake the testing you require in order to track down the bugs.

Confirming, mouse is corrupted even under wine-1.1.43-408-g3317fc3.
Note: Since 1.1.28 there is a regression, so it's not possible to play this game fater 1.1.28. See bug 22532.

--- Comment #5 from David turbolad995@hotmail.co.uk 2010-04-30 12:28:11 --- Using Wine 1.1.42 and the game works MUCH better: it appears that you can now play all levels, the background music and almost everything else works properly. Mouse is still corrupted in the game (it's supposed to be a "+" normally, except when the mouse is moved over one or more "lemmings" in the game when it should turn into a "square"). Mouse corruption confirmed by Wylda in wine-1.1.43-408-g3317fc3 (previous comment).
Sound effects "FX" don't work, only background music. Game is otherwise playable and fun. :)

--- Comment #6 from David turbolad995@hotmail.co.uk 2010-05-07 15:45:25 --- Should this bug report be based on the mouse pointer being corrupted and another bug report created about the missing sound effects? Note the background level music plays fine - the only sound "problem" is the missing sound effects, which don't play at all.

Should this bug report be based on the mouse pointer being corrupted and another bug report created about the missing sound effects?
Yes, one problem = one bug report. Never mix two issues into one. Also please rewrite the subject to mention, that this is about mouse/cursor problem.

--- Comment #9 from David turbolad995@hotmail.co.uk 2010-05-25 20:11:11 --- I have filed a separate bug report for the sound effects not working in Lemmix. I'm a bit unsure how to install a later version of Wine to see if the mouse pointer works properly in Lemmix - I'm using Wine 1.1.42 now. Ubuntu is a bit picky when it comes to installing Wine.
For anyone who knows how to try out the latest version of Wine every time, I would be interested to see if this makes the mouse pointer in Lemmix work "properly" i.e. the mouse pointer should be a "+" until it's moved over one or more "lemmings" in the game, then the mouse pointer should turn into a "square" WITH the lemming(s) visible within the square.

--- Comment #10 from David turbolad995@hotmail.co.uk 2010-05-30 17:46:34 --- As this bug report is about the mouse issue only, can we edit the title of this bug report accordingly? I have seen responses on my other Lemmix bug report about the sound effects not working. :)

During the retest of bug 22532 i noticed, that cursor is OK now. But did not have time to pinpoint the fixing commit, thus i left this bug untouched...
