--- Comment #1 from foobard jens@porup.com 2008-03-08 11:09:49 --- in the /.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Adobe/Acrobat 6.0/Acrobat directory there is an executable called AdobeUpdateManager.exe.
Here's what happens when I run wine AdobeUpdateManager.exe:
me@laptop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Adobe/Acrobat 6.0/Acrobat$ wine AdobeUpdateManager.exe fixme:spoolsv:serv_main (0 (nil)) err:advapi:service_get_status service protocol error - failed to read pipe r = 0 count = 0! me@laptop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Adobe/Acrobat 6.0/Acrobat$
don't know if that helps at all.
given the name of the executable, this bug probably affects other Adobe products as well.

--- Comment #2 from foobard jens@porup.com 2008-03-11 20:26:26 --- as of wine 0.9.57, slightly different behaviour with this bug.
Selecting Help->Updates now pops up a dialog box that says
Updating
Checking for updates
with a button that says Cancel
this dialog box goes away after a few seconds and nothing happens.

--- Comment #22 from Markus Ueberall Markus.Ueberall@gmail.com 2010-01-02 05:15:50 --- Tested this with Acrobat Pro 7.0 using wine 1.1.35 (under Linux); the dialog "Checking for updates... [cancel]" shows up for one second, but nothing else happens.
Unfortunately, it's also impossible to use "msiexec" in order to install "AcrobatUpd714_all_incr.msp" from the command line (again, apart from two "fixme:advapi:LookupAccountNameW" warnings, nothing happens).
From the discussion on #winehq and a 3MB msiexec log created by setting
"WINEDEBUG=+tid,+seh,+relay,+msi,+msidb" as well as a comparison with a "native" installation, it can be seen that the registry is missing a large number of entries (e.g., the entire "HKLM\Software\Classes\Installer" node is missing). Since Adobe uses a "patch" dll to modify both registry entries and file objects during updates (cf. the .rtp files which are kept in an update subdirectory of a forementioned "native" installations), it looks like the registry handling has to be fixed to get the update to work.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11849
--- Comment #23 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2010-01-02 05:24:17 --- So MSI then?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11849
--- Comment #24 from Markus Ueberall Markus.Ueberall@gmail.com 2010-01-02 05:56:08 --- (In reply to comment #23)
So MSI then?
Not sure whether I understand you correctly... if this is supposed to mean "(a) install the application using "msiexec [/i|/a]" instead of "setup.exe" in the first place and/or (b) extract the files within the .msi and patch those (using "msiexec /a" and "msiexec /p"), then this has already been tried to no avail: (a) didn't change anything w.r.t the registry (v7.0 works, but updates still don't) and (b) failed (no files were extracted) In both cases, the respective installation process is the same regardless of the provided msiexec parameters.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11849
--- Comment #25 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2010-01-02 06:06:04 --- None of the above. I was asking, "So, is this a bug in Wine's MSI implementation, then?"
