After inputting all commands for the installation process to begin, the setup
looks by default to update DirectX components. However, during that process the
installation crashes. This is still a problem with the 1.0 Wine version, and
according to the appDB page it was at least since the 0.9.43 version.

Does it help if you run the installer like this:

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="mscoree=""" wine Setup.exe

(if so, this might be a dupe)

Louis Lenders idea worked. But: for some weird reason I was able to install the
addon on my laptop without overriding mscoree (0.9.59). But finally this might
be a dupe then

The command runs the setup, but then it tells me that the two former games are
not installed properly. They are installed in my
.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/Civilization4 directory, therefore I need to redirect
the path for the installation. I do not know however how to do this. Is this
with the wineprefixcreate command? Please submit me what I need to type, and I
will test it again.

I reinstalled Wine and stopped using Playonlinux. With the new prefix for the
game and the command suggested by Louis Lenders the install worked. Which bug
is it a dupe of them?

I tried installing Civ4 complete today (which includes Beyond the Sword) and
the setup hung during installation when trying to update directx.  I'm using
wine 1.1.25.  Killing the directx update process manually allowed the setup to
continue without any further errors.

How long did you wait to say that directx install hung?

For me, it tooks about 15 minutes to install it (core duo 1,6 GHz). Its a bug
in fusion.c.

But, in fine, the install process works.

Note that what I said is for DirectX install downloaded from MS, since I dont
own Civ 4.

I can confirm this. Installed Civ4 Complete by DVD, yesterday, clean wine
1.1.32 install. Install hanged, so I waited for five-ten minutes and did check
if anything was changed on disk with df.

It wasn't so then I just killed the dxsetup process and everything strolled
along fine installation wise.

I have the same bug with wine 1.1.42 but it can be solve by killing DXsetup.exe
process.

I have the same log console. But I wait for a more long time before it
installs.
Please wait for 1 or 2 hours. If it does not install, then it really hang. But
please  wait.
I am pretty sure it will install.

I will try to wait but i think it's useless because after i kill DXsetup.exe,
it  installs normally Beyond the Sword.

Hence, there is no hang. So, either this bug can be marked as INVALID or its
title must be change to: DXSetup.exe takes ages to install in comparison with
native Windows

This is still an issue with wine 1.2, and this happens with multiple games
attempting to update DirectX. I have edited the title accordingly.

My workaround is to copy the game contents to my HDD, change the name of the
directory or files containing the DX update so that the game doesn't install
it, and do winetricks d3dx9 if it is necessary to run the game.
