Summary: "EURO-Fahrschule 2007" starts and runs into an endless loop Product: Wine Version: 0.9.43. Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-misc AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: ionic@ionic.de
Created an attachment (id=7692) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=7692) Screenshot from starting stage
Hi,
I wanted to run EURO-Fahrschule 2007, a German program which helps you learning for your driving license.
The installation went well.
After that I tried starting it.
The starting window appeared and the little sound has been played (choppy though, but this is not of interest for me and we can let that out) - see screenshot one.
After that the GUI should change it's look and the program ought to ready to use - like in screenshot two (taken from Microsoft® Windows®™ XP.)
But this never happens. Instead, the application seems to hang and use 100% CPU, which lead me and other people to the conclusion that Wine is running into an infinitive loop.
I tried to put a little mark in the near of where the program finished playing the sound.
I hope that can be fixed.
Have a nice day,
-Ionic

Looks like it needs mdac, please try "winetricks mdac28" and try again, and report back

--- Comment #4 from Mihai Moldovan ionic@ionic.de 2007-08-20 12:34:12 --- Hmm...
"This product requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 sp2 or greater. Please exit setup and install the latest Microsoft Internet Explorer."
That's happening when I try to install mdac28. Any clues?
Thanks so far,
-Ionic

mdac28 has been installed fine now, but my program is still showing his bad old behavior. In other words: it's not working though. :(

--- Comment #11 from Mihai Moldovan ionic@ionic.de 2008-04-17 12:28:43 --- Yup, I also tested it with a clean WINE tree (wineprefixcreate) and just installed mdac28. Still no luck (is this issue related to the "custom" looking/skinable windows in win32?)

--- Comment #13 from Mihai Moldovan ionic@ionic.de 2008-10-23 15:23:37 --- Hello Austin,
yes, indeed. Though, the symptoms are somewhat different. When not installing mdac28, the same problem occurs as already described.
When installing mdac28 or using a native Windows XP ole32.dll, the application throws this error: "System Error &H80070078", which, according Google, means "This function is only valid in Win32 mode."
Well... what mode do I use when setting Wine to "Windows 2000" or "Windows XP"? I guess this is pretty much win32 mode, but who knows...
Also, those messages appear in my console:
fixme:reg:RegOpenUserClassesRoot (0x68, 0x0, 0x2000000, 0x33fca8) semi-stub fixme:actctx:FindActCtxSectionGuid 00000001 (null) 4 {48733e61-4fd2-11db-b3cd-0040ca60db0c} 0x33fc7c fixme:actctx:FindActCtxSectionGuid 00000001 (null) 4 {48733e61-4fd2-11db-b3cd-0040ca60db0c} 0x33fc64
(All this is true for Wine 1.1.6.)
Best regards,
Mihai
