I think that is mostly a lib error, wininet.dll to be exact. Sorry for my english. If i deal with this, i certainly post comment here, maybe i try to switch wininet.dll from WinXP Home Edition to Wine and see what happens. Just a thought, but may solve a problem. Besides, i'm working on wine-1.1.28 with winetricks installed with this additions: ie6, gecko and d3dx9.

Changing the files described above does not change anything. I don't have more ideas that could solve this bug.

--- Comment #6 from Iwo Zaleski igi31@msn.com 2009-09-20 02:20:31 --- I've tried to run CA on win98, because i've seen in AppDB that this is the way to successively run the game. But in my case, it's been unsuccessive. Game starts in some way, the window with game came up, but this window is... empty, i can see my desktop wallpaper through that window and icons on desktop, when i'm pointing mouse cursor into this game window cursor dissapears. I've added backtrace of WinXP mode, because i was trying to run this game under this mode too. My wine version is 1.1.28. I've got configured registry thanks to the usefull registry keys from wine wiki, and installed ie6, d3dx9 from winetricks. I've tried to run this game with GLSL enabled, disabled, gdi and opengl mode and that don't do the trick, not in win98 mode, nor in winXP mode. Any usefull stuff from this backtrace, that i've added?

--- Comment #7 from Jeff Zaroyko jeffz@jeffz.name 2009-09-20 03:36:35 --- Instead of running the program with winefile, cd to the install dir then run the main executable. It looks like it might have some sort of copy protection also, you could try using a crack as a workaround to see if that makes the game load.

That's no good, tried with hackshield bypass with no results. Error message: "Fail to update protection modules! - ErrorCode [0x00000002]" That's one, and now the second one: "An internal exception occured (Address:0x8f3a12) Please, contact support@oreans.com. Thank you!"
Checked in win98 and WinXP mode.

--- Comment #9 from Iwo Zaleski igi31@msn.com 2009-10-01 05:06:51 --- I think that this bug is not a concern to wine 1.1.28 and should be closed. Combat Arms runs with winetricks- ie6 without a problem with win98 mode.

Not if you have to install ie6... it sets some modules to native.

If that's with a crack then it doesn't seem to be a very effective crack, oreans is the copy protection company.
Hackshield seems to be dealt with in bug 4666.

--- Comment #11 from Iwo Zaleski igi31@msn.com 2009-10-03 09:30:41 --- I've reinstalled Wine and winetricks and i have set up registry from usefull registry keys (but not everything), installed ie6, set up win98 mode and i've installed Combat Arms and it works fine without any crack, so i don't know why i've been not able to run this game earlier. Cheers

Can you attach terminal output after installing in a clean prefix + using crack. Don't install ie6 or set to win98.

Failed installation of Combat Arms
One more thing, this game doesn't even install without ie6, because nexon installer fails to run. Gecko engine is installing before nexon is lauched, but it don't do good.

Perhaps a different version of it is. HackShield gives me error 108 when I try to launch the game.

Well, i didn't even past the install process, because when i want to launch the installer (after download with download manager) the menu of installer goes all white and i can't do anything with that. Changing configuration in winecfg end with the same result, so i think that i simply put the output file.

resolving with 'abandoned'. Multiple issues mixed here, covered by existing bugs.
@hackshield: see existing bugs
@installer: see existing bugs
The web/browser based installer runs better now though still suffers from mshtml/shdocvw/gecko insufficiencies -> different bug(s).
