Windows Live Messenger 8.5, when finally logged in, is horribly slow and
sluggish.
The slowness is visible mostly in delayed hover effects and scrolling lag.

One of the reasons for the slowdowns are the console output. Lines like:
fixme:xrender:X11DRV_AlphaBlend Ignoring SourceConstantAlpha 178 for
AC_SRC_ALPHA
fixme:msimtf:ActiveIMMApp_OnDefWindowProc Stub (0x2005e 20 3006e 2000001)
and 
fixme:shdocvw:InPlaceActiveObject_TranslateAccelerator (0x16fe60)->(0x32fd84)
are spamming the console.  So i think this bug depends on Bug 15435.

Then try 'wine messenger.exe &> /dev/null' and see if it improves greatly.

The DIB engine in bug 421 may help.

Forwarding the output to /dev/null makes no difference.

On wine 1.1.29 the issue persists. Even though the environment was inherently
slow (virtual machine), everything else was at least 5x faster at any given
moment.

I'll try it with the dib engine tomorrow to see if it does anything to help.

In wine 1.1.35 the UI looks really bad, terribly slow and it doesn't redraw
correctly.

Friendly reminder of 2 years without new posts. Download link is dead. Possibly
it's not compatible with newer protocol versions. Is this still an issue in
latest development version of wine?
