Summary: Internet Explorer 8 is non-functional Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: jesdisciple@gmail.com
Internet Explorer 8, in the best case I could attain, does nothing useful. The single tab only says "Connecting..." Trying to visit a URL locks the window.
I tried several combinations, all of them with a special wine prefix. These included: * using a copy of a working IE7 prefix (the best case); * installing IE7 first and doing everything required to get it working (the second-best case); * not installing IE7 but still doing everything required to get it working; * installing IE8 without doing anything first.
(The "winetricks volnum" line suggesting in the AppDB entry seemed to be irrelevant on my system.)
In the last case, a program error dialog ("the program has encountered a serious error...") is displayed for services.exe and IE alerts "Cannot find about:SecurityRisk'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct." However, the window itself behaves in exactly the same way regardless.
Two bronze tests were posted in the AppDB entry, so maybe I'm just missing something those testers had.
If console output would be helpful, I can repeat the best case (or one of the other three).

--- Comment #2 from Chris jesdisciple@gmail.com 2009-07-10 18:11:06 --- Woops... wine-1.1.25
The CLI output is so long that I had to redirect it to a file. When I opened it in gedit, it displayed a bunch of oriental characters; redirecting via batch didn't help. In short, it's attached but I have no idea what encoding it's in.

The other output was from installation; this is from running.

- using a copy of a working IE7 prefix (the best case);
Is that from ies4linux? If so, then it's invalid, we don't support ies4linux.
Closing regardless.

--- Comment #7 from Chris jesdisciple@gmail.com 2009-07-11 22:21:08 --- Nah, actually the IE7 from ies4linux needs to be updated really bad.

Nah, actually the IE7 from ies4linux needs to be updated really bad.
Report it to ies4linux developers.

--- Comment #9 from Chris jesdisciple@gmail.com 2009-07-12 11:21:30 --- I'm actually trying to make a rough draft of the fix myself, but I didn't mention that because it was irrelevant... I know they're totally separate projects.
