Removing Audio selection its not a good idea... the automatic driver selection does not select the best audio driver.
= problems with all apps that need audio. games, audio tools, etc...
removing features its a regression.
the only work-arround its to install-force 1.3.15 but keeping all other updated: winetricks wine1.3-geko gnome-exe-thumbnailer ttf-symbol

--- Comment #9 from Dmitry Timoshkov dmitry@baikal.ru 2011-09-28 02:51:25 CDT --- Let's rephrase the question: what exactly the problem is with the application you are using? What's the name of that application?

No sound, if pavucontrol is closed (default). Sound with very high cpu usage when pavucontrol is active & crash 30 minutes later.
Problem affects All software that needs audio or midi.
BUT problem does not happen when i force-install wine1.3.15 in Ubuntu 11.x 32-bits
Thanks.

Then please post the result of your regression testing. Removing a configuration option from winecfg is not a feature removal.

--- Comment #12 from JuanPabloCuervo audioprof2002@hotmail.com 2011-10-03 11:28:03 CDT --- i wont do a regression test... this looks more like a business decision "trick to sell crossover." smart move.
same happened with Camtasia Studio 6, it was perfect...

--- Comment #14 from David Finch david@mytsoftware.com 2011-10-04 00:03:01 CDT --- I thought it was a bug when I didn't see the audio driver selection options anymore, and it's not selecting the correct driver on its own (on 10.04), and was selecting nothing instead (correct choice would have been alsa). The test button somehow worked (despite it reporting that no driver was selected), but in Fallout: New Vegas and Oblivion audio was gone after the title screen, apart from occasional crackling. I hadn't tested other games.
With audio broken, I switched back to 1.3.24 which had worked, but somehow .29 had corrupted my wine prefix (never figured out in what way) so New Vegas would refuse to run (oddly claiming it wasn't installed) and I had to restore a full backup. But that'd be another bug and I doubt backwards compatibility with itself is high up in the priorities, apart from difficulty it causes with regression testing.
If the winecfg audio tab is reporting none incorrectly, is there another way to see which driver it's using? Or another way to set it (the registry key didn't seem to work).

If the winecfg audio tab is reporting none incorrectly
I believe this is fixed by 6adf21173c21dfeffe85e9021978ac07885ff7f5 in yesterday's Git.
(the registry key didn't seem to work)
This is strange. Are you sure it wasn't working, or was it just not being reported correctly in winecfg?

Is this still a problem in Wine 1.3.37? If so, can you name the applications that demonstrate the problem?
