--- Comment #2 from José Eduardo jemourao@gmail.com 2008-11-29 17:34:53 --- this only occurs when you have an Age 3 folder in the directory that you want to install, if you delete it the setup will work perfectly, this happened to me when i tried to install again the Age 3, but i deleted the folder after this message and this message only appeared on the end of the setup, but i played it now and that message on the end doesn't affect the game

--- Comment #4 from Thomas Beimel gnulinux@thomas-beimel.de 2008-11-30 01:37:11 --- Sorry I uploaded the console output but the upload seems to have been failed. I uploaded it once again. I will try to install AOE3 again, and if the same error occurs I'll do regression testing.

--- Comment #5 from Thomas Beimel gnulinux@thomas-beimel.de 2008-11-30 01:57:27 --- So I tried again with a vanilla .wine + mfc42.dll which is needed to enter the cd key. Result : Same error again. The error of the installer (translated into English as my version is German) says "Error: -1603 Bad Error during installation. You can find more information in the Windows-Installer-Help (Msi.chm) or at MSDN." I'll try regression testing.

--- Comment #6 from Thomas Beimel gnulinux@thomas-beimel.de 2008-11-30 02:04:29 --- Installed the game again and something strange happens: The error message does not appear after the same time. During 1st installation the error occured while copying age3.exe the 2nd try the error occured while copying splash.exe. Any ideas?

--- Comment #12 from Thomas Beimel gnulinux@thomas-beimel.de 2008-12-23 06:19:19 --- This bug is strange... Did nobody else hit this bug? I tried to install aoe3 again and again in a clean wine tree except the mfc42.dll that I had to add to enter the key. I suspected the installation to fail because of the condition of my cds. So I tried under windows and there installation went fine. Now I tried under different distribution Ubuntu 8.04 with an older wine (1.0.0) and : the same error. In conclusion I don't know where to start with regression tests...

--- Comment #13 from Thomas Beimel gnulinux@thomas-beimel.de 2008-12-23 06:24:56 --- Because of this line : << err:msi:ready_media Cabinet not found: L"Z:\media\cdrom0\Disk2C~1.cab" >> I suspect that wine does not know when it has to change CDs. I assume this because Disk2C~1.cab is not present on the first CD.
But: I also tried to copy the content into one folder and installed from there and had a very similar error (that's where the console output comes from)

Reporter, are you installing from CD?

--- Comment #18 from Thomas Beimel gnulinux@thomas-beimel.de 2009-01-23 08:48:41 --- Yes , I was installing from the CDs and I am not sure whether the quality of the CDs (originals) suffered over the time. The time when I encountered the error I also tried a new installation on windows to confirm but it went fine. Last week I tried again on a new PC and I am having issues on windows too so I think we need someone else to confirm this bug or otherwise close it.

I recently switched to a wireless internet connection and this problem appeared. The game was running fine and I finished it then tried to install Warchiefs which didn't work, so i tried reinstalling every thing... including Ubuntu but the game will just not install. I have attached the console output which is all fixme statements except the last three lines which reads:
err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted, action L"InstallFinalize" returned 1627 err:ole:ClientRpcChannelBuffer_SendReceive called from wrong apartment, should have been 0x2400000047 err:ole:xCall RpcChannelBuffer SendReceive failed, 8001010e
here it is hanging, at the final part of install "Publishing qualified components"

Wouldn't this be "fixed" only when Wine's native mfc42 can be used?

If you mean built-in, Wine doesn't have one yet for reasons covered previously on wine-devel.
