I have several Xservers with different geometry:
:0 - real Xorg server - 1280x1024
:1 - vnc server (or Xnest) - 1024x768

If I run any wine app first time in smaller X (:1) and then on bigger X (:0),
it gets corrupted outside 1024x768 region - exactly the size of smaller X.

If I use wine virtual desktop feature (X server does not matter), this bug
does not appear.

This bug appears in the following test-case with single Xserver:

0) be sure wineserver is not loaded
$ wineserver -k
1) change resolution from 1280x1024 to 1024x768 using xrandr
$ xrandr -s 1024x768
2) run wine app (winecfg)
$ winecfg
3) change resolution back and move window around
$ xrandr -s 1280x1024

I had someone test this in #winehq and couldn't reproduce comment #1 in 1.1.35.
Kirill, can you retest?

Still an issue.

NVidia 185.18.14
KDE 4.3.4
wine-1.1.35-364-g9dc584d

It seems wine does not get notifications that desktop geometry is changes
outside.

confirming the bug
wine 1.3.36, ubuntu 11.10, GeForce GT220
tested with steam, qip and some games
bug appears after some game forgets to restore screen resolution or if it
simply crashes and then after change resolution in nvidia settings.
bug disappears after wine reboot (using playonlinux). bug also disappears after
enabling desktop emulation in wine settings and setting it to monitor's native
resolution, but then other issues appear.

wine apps after half-life 2 crash

this kuso was begun after half-life's crash. half-life's screen resolution was
set to 1024x768. monitor's native resolution is 1280x1024.
wine apps' windows' area out of the bounds of 1024x768 isn't redrawing
