Bug #: 32013 Summary: To the Moon crashes "Failed to load archive." Product: Wine Version: 1.5.15 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: maxmusterm@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 42195 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=42195 2 lines of console output
I got To the Moon from the newest Indie Royale Bundle http://www.indieroyale.com/ and tried to start it in my regular wine prefix and after this in a clean wine prefix both times with the same error message. Failed to load archive. The console output is attached but I don't think it's very helpful. I didn't test it with Windows yet but I assume it works.

--- Comment #1 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2012-10-19 22:07:53 CDT --- I can confirm this bug, I also have To the Moon and Dreamscape from another Indie Bundle and they behave in the same way. I believe this is a dupe of bug #19566. It affects many if not all games created with the RPGMaker tool. These games store resources in a compressed file (.rgssad) and they usually make it encrypted when creating the game in RPGMaker. There are tools out there intended to uncompress such .rgssad archives, and the game indeed can be started in Wine after unpacking the archive. These tools have questionable legal status however.
Demos exist for these games, including To the Moon, but they usually contain an additional protection layer: the game executable is packed/protected with Armadillo. This could interfere with Wine when testing. To the Moon from the Indie Bundle is DRM free, only RGSS102E.dll is packed with ASPack v 2.12 (don't know if that affects anything)

--- Comment #2 from Max Mustermann maxmusterm@gmail.com 2012-10-20 06:24:36 CDT --- IMHO it's not an RPG Maker Game.RPG Maker games use lcf libraries which aren't used by to the Moon (even thought the first look and feel led me to believe it was). RPG-Maker games should all run with wine and/or easyrpg (at least partially).

--- Comment #3 from Max Mustermann maxmusterm@gmail.com 2012-10-20 08:38:55 CDT --- Sorry didn't know that RPG Maker XP is different than the other RPG Maker games. I now confirm that it's the RPG Maker XP engine and the bug reference. My bad

I tried To the Moon demo, and I found out the same evidence in the trace log.
