Bug ID: 40417 Summary: Please remove Wine mime associations Product: Packaging Version: unspecified Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-packages Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: sb56637@gmail.com CC: michael@fds-team.de, sebastian@fds-team.de Distribution: ---
Hello,
I run Wine on many different distros (openSUSE, Arch, Ubuntu, and others). On all of them, after installing Wine it takes over my default mime program associations for many common things like images and text files. There is no reason I would ever want to open a text file with Wine's Notepad, and nobody would ever want to open a JPG or PNG image in Wine's Internet Explorer. Please remove these useless mime associations, and only leave the sensible ones like .EXE and .MSI file associations.
Thanks a lot!

--- Comment #1 from Michael Müller michael@fds-team.de --- These mime type associations are created by winemenubuilder at runtime. They are not part of the packaging files. I am therefore moving the bug to the wine product. There might be a GSOC project soon (if it gets accepted) which should give the user more control about which mime type associations appear in the host system.
