--- Comment #1 from Chris H chrishylands@gmail.com 2011-04-14 22:27:03 CDT --- Ace of Spades requires the -aos:// argument to run when launching via command line. If you look under the "how to" section of version 0.26 it will give clearer instructions on running the game.

--- Comment #2 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2011-04-15 00:51:04 CDT --- Are you saying that the app should and indeed does crash out under Windows?

--- Comment #3 from Chris H chrishylands@gmail.com 2011-04-15 08:05:22 CDT --- The executable is designed to be run only when pointed towards a server (usually by clicking on a server name from a web browser, but in WINE Linux web browsers do not have the associations for the aos protocol automatically added). The game will not run unless it is directed to a server at launch. We circumvent this by adding the command line argument or by using a windows web browser under wine which already has those associations automatically set up. Thank you again for your help.

--- Comment #5 from Ken Sharp kennybobs@o2.co.uk 2011-04-17 11:00:21 CDT --- No idea, my question still hasn't been answered.
Are you saying that the app should and indeed does crash out under Windows?
If it doesn't crash under Windows then there's obviously a Wine bug.
I'll check myself under Windows when I get the chance, but it takes so long to load I rarely boot it.

--- Comment #6 from Chris H chrishylands@gmail.com 2011-04-17 13:59:33 CDT --- The executable will crash under windows, linux, or os x if it is not pointed to a server. Double clicking the icon or simply launching it as 'client.exe' will cause it to crash. This is the way that the developer has chosen to run the game.
If you look at the how-to on the linked appdb page, you will see instructions which show that you need to either point the client.exe towards a server through a web-browser or command line argument. This is the exact same behavior as in Windows and will allow the game to be run properly.
