I'm really have no ideia, well, i don't know, but, this bug was to be added to wine 1.3.25 together with the patch for the problem of crashes before the menu.
I think that they don't gonna put this patch into wine, because i use the Crysis patch since 2010 and they still dont put into wine.
I think that some patchs mess-up with some important function of wine that they don't want to change or broke some other app, so, they don't put into wine.

--- Comment #7 from Trip Ericson rovfan@quelorant.com 2011-07-30 20:59:16 CDT --- So is there any word on whether or not this will be in the next version of WINE? I tried to build WINE today with this patch included but after 25 minutes the compile failed, so I've decided to just wait and hopefully use it in the debs of the next WINE release.

Hi, i have a compiled version of Wine 1.3.25 with this patch and the Crysis memory problem patch, i'm trying to make a deb package of every testing version of wine and disponibilizing by my Google Code page.
If you want, can download by this links http://code.google.com/p/homesprojects/downloads/detail?name=wine_1.3.25-1_i...
The description of the deb and things like are in my native language (Portuguese), but, the wine is compiled with multilanguage so you can download and install into your Debian based system.
It's i386 :)
Next time i will create a description in english.

I'm on an AMD64 installation. Can I use the i386 package on an AMD64 system? I've never used AMD64 before getting this new computer a few days ago, so I'm not really familiar with all the ins and outs of it yet.
Thanks. =)

I'm really dont know, i know that are a ia32libs that is necessary to run 386 apps on AMD64, and most of the apps run with this library, but, i dont know if this apply to wine.

--- Comment #12 from Benjamin Carlyle benjamincarlyle@soundadvice.id.au 2011-08-07 05:59:38 CDT --- I applied http://bugs2.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=35577 as a patch against http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-wine/ppa/ubuntu wine1.3_1.3.25-0ubuntu1~ppa1~natty1 on Ubuntu 11.04 amd64. This version looks to be a completely clean 1.3.25 with the addition of a debian directory to perform packaging tasks. I am still seeing the crash from this bug report with the patched wine in place. It occurs something like every 5 minutes, but there are particular points in the game where the crashes are more frequent - especially the gel levels. I have played through near to the end with frequent restarts but have now hit a point where the crash doesn't allow me to proceed any further.

I have played Portal 2 yesterday for nearly an hour without crash. That was on wine compiled from git (version 1.3.27). Before this version game crashed everytime after about 15 minutes (also with patch from thehoome).
Thank you Grazvydas Ignotas for this improved patch. I think that this bug can be closed now.

This wasn't really fixed on BSD, see http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28665 , and the patch from Comment 2 isn't a solution (breaks other things).

--- Comment #20 from Erich Hoover ehoover@mines.edu 2012-01-01 13:47:39 CST --- Are there some tricks for tracking down bugs like this in Source games? I just got a new computer and I transferred my Wine over and I'm having symptoms like those described in the summary. However, I'm running an updated Wine (1.3.36) and there doesn't appear to be any useful information in the crash (no backtrace, WTF!).

--- Comment #21 from Jerome Leclanche adys.wh@gmail.com 2012-01-01 14:06:24 CST --- (In reply to comment #20) Source/Steam command line switches help. Toy with them. Eg: wine portal2.exe -nobreakpad -nocrashdialog -nominidumps
Breakpad is the Source debugger. Also worth noting are -nosound, -novid and -window.

Yeah, I tried experimenting with most of those options before and I just tried the others - there's still no useful information that's output. It seems like the application might be intentionally terminating for some reason :/
