--- Comment #5 from Rico kgbricola@web.de 2013-03-11 05:39:26 CDT --- Please stop filing bugs! The information you provide are usesless. Please read wiki.winehq.org/Bugs and have a look in the appdb for the corresponding app. Also have a look wiki.winehq.org/FAQ . You may consult the forum or irc for help.
Imho it is unlikely that all those games which are working fine for a couple of users shouldn't work on your side. So there seems to be a general issue with your usage / software / configuration.

--- Comment #7 from Mac Molder macmolder@gmail.com 2013-03-11 07:00:43 CDT --- I did look at the appdb for all of these, but those were not very helpful because these programs I installed are rather old.
For example this : http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=10149
It says that these were tested in 2010 and now its 2013. A lot of versions between and issues that those had are not likely to be the same anyway. I did look for hits in existing bugs but for no avail. And I have Mac OS and those are Linux.
FAQ and Bugs pages you indicated, are timing out indefinetelly so I cannot look at them.
But of course the issue could be the same as you said. If I only would get a glue of from where to look at ? Do you have any suggestions what should I do ? I have other games on wine/mac and those are ok. Only these fail.

--- Comment #8 from Rico kgbricola@web.de 2013-03-11 08:17:04 CDT --- First, if you haven't done that already, you should try a clean prefix (see the FAQ - wiki is working now again, please try again). Install only the one game and try it.
What share all these games (beside these are old)? Has one of the apps a demo version which shows the same problem?
Well, you may give an older wine version a try to see if those apps worked in the past for you. If so, it's a regression and you should run a regression test (http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting). Imho, I doubt it's a regression, since it doesn't seem to work with 1.4 (see http://www.playonlinux.com/en/issue-766.html), but that's pure speculation from my side.

--- Comment #9 from Mac Molder macmolder@gmail.com 2013-03-11 09:51:39 CDT --- All programs I've installed are in clean prefix. Fresh 1.5.25 install and clean and only single game per wine.
Unfortunately I dont have a demo and even if I would, it may not help, because it is the installation that crashes on this and installation programs in commercial ones are not the same as in demos.
Regarding faq, Mac OSX section is rather out-dated, links pointing to obsolete pages and versions, stating in one clause of not having wine builds and on another having them, but it does have one interesting one there that could be related to this thou but it is closed as it did not appear with older Xcode versions. It is related to using old Xcode in 2009 : http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14920
I have Xcode 3.2.1. Comment #41 says it is no longer an issue with 3.2.*, verified in 3.2.4 in Comment #44. But I cannot uprade to that minor version as the operating system in this computer is old and Apple no longer supports upgrades on this because UEFI is too old.
I dont know if these are 16 or 32 bit. How could one know ? These that crash are windows95 and 98 programs. Could this be direct draw issue as in this bug ? But I do have also win98 programs that work.
Are there flags I could put to wine starting that would help solving this that would narrow up the scope ?

--- Comment #10 from Mac Molder macmolder@gmail.com 2013-03-11 10:02:30 CDT --- Just a small addition to the bug mentioned above : http://wiki.winehq.org/MacOSX/Building
The link above, that in fact is the most accurate of those, does state too:
Note that since Xcode 3.x (as distributed with Leopard), a bug in the MacOS linker causes all 16 bit applications (incl. installers) to crash. If you have a Tiger system, use Xcode 2.x from your DVD. If you are a developer, you can obtain Xcode 2.x from Apple's Developer Connection (ADC). Or you may patch the Xcode 3.x linker source code per the instructions given in bug #14920. Otherwise use ./configure --disable-win16
But again, it says this is not an issue any more. Unless something is not quite correct, there. Ok, I am just quessing.

--- Comment #12 from Mac Molder macmolder@gmail.com 2013-03-12 16:08:38 CDT --- Just out of curiosity I took a log (WINEDEBUG=+tid,+seh,+relay) from installation process.
By looking at the dump, it looks like it is calling 16 bit code. Just before it crashes, it loads version.dll and allocates heap with :
0023:Ret ntdll.RtlAllocateHeap() retval=003a7f28 ret=42865635 0023:CallTo16(func=11ef:74ea,ds=11f7) ss:sp=11f7:56ec ax=0000 bx=3ee0 cx=2ef8 dx=0000 si=0000 di=11f7 bp=0000 es=11cf fs=11df 0023:Call KERNEL.91: INITTASK() ret=11ef:74f2 ds=11f7 AX=0000 BX=3ee0 CX=2ef8 DX=0000 SI=0000 DI=11f7 ES=11cf EFL=00000246
And when it tries to release heap, it crashes. In this case however, there is no CallTo16 function as in previous ones : 0023:Ret ntdll.RtlFreeHeap() retval=00000001 ret=428aa511 0023:Ret KERNEL.91: INITTASK() retval=none ret=11ef:74f2 ds=11f7 AX=0001 BX=0080 CX=189c DX=0001 SI=0000 DI=11f7 ES=11cf EFL=00000246 0023:trace:seh:raise_exception code=c0000005 flags=0 addr=0xc1d ip=00000c1d tid=0023
All other libraries before it allocate and deallocate fine. I dont know if this helps. Just guessing again. But at least the program is using 16 bit. I attach the log just in case you need it. Out of curiosity, what is KERNEL.91 call ? I was trying to look at dvl doc but did not find it.
