Summary: Deafult bug severity should be normal Product: WineHQ Bugzilla Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: P2 Component: bugzilla-unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: juan_lang@yahoo.com
It seems the default severity, enhancement, invites people to select a REALLY SEVERE sounding level instead. I suggest changing the default severity to normal in the hopes of cutting down on the yelling.

I'd say start a thread on wine-devel about it. I've not heard any complaints, but no one's done anything either.

--- Comment #7 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2009-05-28 16:36:56 --- Changed defaultseverity to normal Changed defaultplatform to pc Changed defaultopsys to Linux
Now, how will we tell if this was a good idea? By counting the number of times we have to override the severity chosen by users?

Excellent, thanks!
Now, how will we tell if this was a good idea? By counting the number of times we have to override the severity chosen by users?
Good question. That should be possible by scouring wine-bugs, but I'm willing to use a subjective measure instead. Since the bug was about the default severity, rather than about user behavior, I'm going to mark this as fixed.

Now, how will we tell if this was a good idea? By counting the number of times we have to override the severity chosen by users?
By seeing how many users still take not notice whatsoever and set their bugs as critical.
Was setting PC and OS a good move?
Changing those fields to Choose... will force the user to actually pick their details (as "Choose..." shouldn't be accepted by the server), and they have no reason to lie about their architecture.
Also, "Platform" and "OS" could be changed to "Your Platform" and "Your OS".

It's essentially the reverse of the argument for setting 'Normal' to be the default.
By and large, most users are using Linux. Those that aren't will know to change it.
PC, again is the main choice, though 64-bit is growing. Whether that makes a difference for bug reporting, however, is another issue.
Also, "Platform" and "OS" could be changed to "Your Platform" and "Your OS".
I don't see the point in that. By that argument, we'd have to put 'your's all over the place.

Because whenever someone changes these fields to "All", the standard answer is "This should be what you are running" because, these fields... should be what the user is running.
Those that aren't will know to change it.
Let's hope so... they don't seem to know to change it from "Other" now.

They should be changed to "unspecified" just like Version field does IMO.

And "All" with unsupported platforms which are known Wine doesn't run on (all Windows ones) should be removed.
Winetest runs on windows, and there are bugs related to it.
Otherwise, removing DEC/HP/AIX/etc. that wine doesn't run on, or hardware that hasn't been manufactured in a dozen years, I'm all for removing.
