Summary: Half-Life 2 bad performance if wide areas are in sight Product: Wine Version: 0.9.45. Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: P2 Component: wine-directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: d1m1@gmx.ch
since commit ad692f2a83c11ba0c9bb1d0e21d4d95029a65942
hl2 has worse performance, especially in wide areas. (also wide areas without many polygons)
It seems that maps without wide areas run okay and it seems that performance is also good if you just look at a near wall.
and it seems that if you undo the commit in wine-0.9.45 that there are fewer shadows (like in version 0.9.44), but during regression testing i also encountered a configuration with more shadows than 0.9.44 and good performance. (not yet sure, i have to check the shadows again and if 0.9.45 really has more shadows than 0.9.44) On 0.9.45 switching off all effects (shadows, shaders etc) doesn't have an effect.
system configuration:
Debian Etch x86 nvidia 7900 gtx, driver 100.14.11 AMD X2 5200 2 GB RAM

--- Comment #2 from Roderick Colenbrander thunderbird2k@gmx.net 2007-09-21 13:55:43 --- Try the latest GIT version. I have added various PBO fixes to there, likely hl2 will work again.
I've made a post about it on playonlinux.com
You can see it here : http://www.playonlinux.com/forums/see_topic.php?topic=414 http://www.playonlinux.com/forums/see_topic.php?topic=414 You should use another version of wine, not 0.9.45 0.9.40>= have lot of troubles with steam and Dsound. Take a look at my post, playonlinux.com is very easy to use and should help you :)
