Bug ID: 49565 Summary: World of Warcraft: black screen/empty window Product: Wine-staging Version: 5.11 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: blocker Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: loic.blot@unix-experience.fr CC: leslie_alistair@hotmail.com, z.figura12@gmail.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 67703 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=67703 Screenshot
Hello, since wine 5.11 i cannot play World of Warcraft anymore. The battle.net launcher works fine, but the game window when started is either black with cursor (in wine 5.11-1 on archlinux) or empty (in wine-staging 5.11-2 & 5.12-1 on archlinux)
I tested wine 5.10-1 but wine doesn't work on 5.10-1, the last known working version is 5.9-1 which is fine.
Note: i'm a standard Archlinux user, with a amdgpu Radeon RX580, mesa 10.2 (didn't worked on 10.1 too), a Ryzen 2700 CPU and dxvk-bin latest release
Here are the wine logs from the launcher start to wow start

--- Comment #1 from Alex Y alexyov@protonmail.com --- Hello,
I can confirm that since wine 5.11 i'm also having issues with starting World of Wacraft, while Battle.Net client is working.
I just tested again today through 5.12 and pretty much after a few seconds the game crashed. Here are the last logs that appeared:

--- Comment #2 from Olivier F. R. Dierick o.dierick@piezo-forte.be --- Hello,
Please don't paste long texts, attach them as TXT files instead (@nerzhul).
Issues in a single application are severity 'normal'. Read more about severity levels descriptions there: https://wiki.winehq.org/Bugs#severity
I confirm the issue, but this is not really a bug.
This is in fact a resurgence of bug 45349.
World of Warcraft depends on 64bit syscall thunks provided by the staging patchset 'winebuild-Fake_Dlls'.
Wine 5.11 had several 'temporary regressions' caused by a partial ntdll splitting, and that patchset is currently (as of 5.12) disabled for that reason.
--- quote from winebuild-Fake_Dlls/definition --- # As of 43be3507c04, unless I've misread, ntdll.dll no longer has the chance to # run code before ntdll.so performs process initialization. Unfortunately, # ntdll.so is still making calls to Nt* exports during that process # initialization, which in practice means it's calling syscall thunks. In order # for this series to work, we need to poke __wine_syscall_dispatcher into the # TEB before those calls are made. Fixing this would require a nontrivial amount # of effort, which will be obviated as soon as Alexandre finishes splitting # ntdll upstream. Disabled: true --- end quote ---
Until that situation get resolved, you'll have to keep using wine 5.10.
Regards.

Thanks Olivier, can we have a nice commit message when World of Warcraft will be fine again in your changelog ? :) Thanks
Hello,
A commit has been pushed. It is reported to fix World of Warcraft in bug 45349.
--- quote from Paul Gofman https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45349#c7 --- This should now be "staged" again with d2d0366ce5df254957a96bb6b7eb02c1616dba1d --- end quote ---
The current solution is to split the working parts from the disabled patchset into a separate patchset.
The new patchset is 'winebuild-pe_syscall_thunks'.
I don't think it will appear in a changelog, but in the wine-staging release announcement.
You can find the commit details there: https://github.com/wine-staging/wine-staging/commit/d2d0366ce5df254957a96bb6...
Closing.
Regards.
