Bug #: 31067 Summary: Font smoothing doesn't work in Ubuntu except for large dpi Product: Wine Version: 1.5.4 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: gdi32 AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: b7.10110111@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified
Whenever I installed wine on Ubuntu (on many machines) since the days when font smoothing appeared in wine, I've not been able to enable font smoothing. After some experiments it appeared that despite fonts not being antialiased for the normal window text, it is antialiased for sample text in font selection dialog. Also, it appears that if I select >121 dpi screen resolution in winecfg Graphics tab, I do get all the fonts smoothed. But of course, in this case the text is way too large to be usable. Here's my ~/.fonts.conf: http://pastebin.com/icJbnkiT As for wine versions, this happens since 1.1.12 up to current versions.

--- Comment #1 from Joel Peláez joelpelaez@gmail.com 2012-08-02 12:07:31 CDT --- You have copy Windows's Fonts located in C:\Windows\Fonts to "/home/<username>/.fonts" directory. Wine use fonts not include in packages as ttf-mscorefonts-installer as Tahoma (used in Wine Interface). Copy only *.ttf and *.TTF files, not *.fon, cannot be used. Remember enable smoothing fonts in Wine.
PS: Sorry for bad English.

--- Comment #6 from unxed unxed@mail.ru 2013-01-28 06:36:37 CST --- Disabling ClientSideGraphics (as suggested in http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31796) does not fix the issue for me.

--- Comment #7 from unxed unxed@mail.ru 2013-01-28 07:31:27 CST --- UPD: This is font-specific issue. Andale Mono and Liberation Mono are show aliased in size 16, but DejaVu Sans Mono 16 is shown antialiased as it should be.
Tested in wineconsole.
