Bug ID: 39252 Summary: Heart of Darkness: Crashes on start Product: Wine Version: 1.7.50 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: groovy354@gmail.com Distribution: ---
I've installed Heart of Darkness with no problem, but when I try to run the game (the `HODWin32.exe`file from Program Files), it crashes with no error message or anything. If I run the `HeartOfDarkness_En.EXE`, a welcome popup show up, and if I press "Start Game", the game crashes just the same.
The free demo available on the Internet (`hod_demo-weben1_2.exe`) works fine, but the full version just crashes on start.
*The terminal output is empty*, and so is debug info (called with `WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh,+tid wine HODWin32.exe >> ~/temp/hod_output.txt 2>&1`

--- Comment #1 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com --- Do you really have a /temp folder? Because with a relay log it is impossible to not have output.

Ops, sorry. I didn't notice the ~. I thought it was a plain /tmp typo.

--- Comment #3 from groovy354@gmail.com --- I managed to find a different version of the game and running it causes CPU usage to rise up and remain at about 80%, the terminal output is
``` fixme:mountmgr:harddisk_ioctl Unsupported ioctl 2d4800 (device=2d access=1 func=200 method=0) ```
repeated infinitely.
That would be a different problem. The first game source you used could be from a damaged/bad version of the game.
Well, does ~/temp exist?
Well, does ~/temp exist?
Yes, it does - as you can see in Comment #3, I managed to get some interesting terminal output.
--- Comment #12 from mail+wine@m-reimer.de --- I also had this crash. You get the crash if you just mount the CD, navigate to it in your file browser and just click the setup file from there. This way the game will not remember the correct drive letter for CD access.
Use "wine explorer" first. Navigate to the D: drive in explorer and launch setup from there.
After doing so, the game starts without any issues.
I would also recommend you to configure this wine prefix to use the virtual desktop. This game looks much nicer in a virtual desktop window as the resolution is pretty low.
I've submitted a appdb entry for this.
I guess this bug can be closed.
