--- Comment #1 from Felipe Contreras felipe.contreras@gmail.com 2013-08-29 11:51:30 CDT --- How is this minor? This bug basically makes the game unplayable.
It's definitely not performance, I bet there's a function that is not implemented that causes an unnecessary delay.

Based on your description, the game plays fine once loaded. It's annoying, but doesn't completely break the game. Or did I misunderstand the problem?

By "load" I don't mean "start", I mean "load"; each time a saved game is loaded, a new level is loaded, etc.
There are parts of the game where many levels are loaded in a short period of time.

--- Comment #4 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2013-08-29 14:12:59 CDT --- Fair enough, thanks for the clarification. You might try older wine versions, I don't recall having this issue before.
Does the demo behave the same for you? http://www.gamershell.com/download_20697.shtml

It takes a long time (about a minute), but not nearly as long.
Unfortunately the installer seems to crash the Intel driver, at least with SNA mode, so I forced UXA mode and I was able to install it.

--- Comment #6 from silver.death@web.de --- I've the same issue. The game-startup needs about 3 minutes, then the menu runs flawless. After clicking on 'start new game' and about 5 minutes waiting the intro starts. Again without any interference. I also have the same output.
My configuration is: Ubuntu 12.10 (+LXDE), wine 1.7.9 (PPA), Intel Core2-Duo, current NVidia-driver (from their homepage). Tried win32 and win64 mode, with/without '-dx9', with/without openal (native) and msvcp80 (native) (as read in a test). Using each time a 1920x1050 emulated desktop.
If I recognize it correct, switching between other windows and emulated desktop courses again some seconds to reload (10-20 seconds). It could be, that this is enclosed to the 'start-up-waiting', in the sense while waiting switching between windows.
I remember that with wine 1.3.? I didn't wait as long.

--- Comment #7 from hanska2@luukku.com --- Is this still an issue with 1.7.24?
Also if present, debug would be great.

--- Comment #8 from Luke lukebenes@hotmail.com --- Yes, this is still an issue with 1.7.24. It can take 5-10 minutes to load between levels on Ubuntu 14.4. I played Bioshock extensively with Ubuntu 12.4 and wine 1.4 and this was not an issue.
I noticed that mount.ntfs is 100% when the levels are loading, so I deleted my local content and reinstalled on a NTFS-3G drive. After the change, the levels load slowly but in a reasonable time(20-30 seconds). Could there be a regression in the way Wine, Ubuntu, and NTFS-3G are interacting?

--- Comment #9 from hanska2@luukku.com --- Would it be possible that there is regression in kernel driver?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34362
--- Comment #10 from Luke lukebenes@hotmail.com --- My comment should read:
so I deleted my local content and reinstalled on a ext4 filesystem.
We need some testers to help narrow this regression down to either a kernel bug or wine bug. All my PC's are running bleeding edge, but if I have some spare time, I'll load up an old version of Ubuntu.

--- Comment #11 from hanska2@luukku.com --- Also trying with older wine could help.

--- Comment #12 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for over a year. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.51 or newer) wine?

--- Comment #14 from Vincent Grande shoober420@gmail.com --- Loading does take a couple minutes. I'm using staging-2.21, core2quad 3.8ghz and gtx 760. Game plays fine besides that in dx9 mode. Hopefully we can play it in dx10 mode soon.
