Bug ID: 45762 Summary: Metal Gear Solid 2 Movies No Longer Play. Product: Wine Version: 3.14 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: SolisX007@yahoo.com Distribution: ---
Hello Everyone,
Metal Gear Solid 2 the movies don't play any more. In wine-1.9.10 the movies play. I have not tested to see exactly to see where the bug was introduced. I will try and go that later on.

--- Comment #1 from Lunknown SolisX007@yahoo.com --- Ok i'm guessing that someone tried to fix the crash in wine-3.3.
wine-3.2 good (crashes when movies are suppose to play.) wine-3.3 bad (get a black screen when movies are suppose to play.)

--- Comment #3 from Zebediah Figura z.figura12@gmail.com --- Yes, Wine 3.3 included several fixes for winegstreamer instability. In particular there were several fixes to avoid crashing when a plugin could not be found to render the desired format.
If you are encountering crashes before 3.3 and failure to play videos after 3.3, please check to make sure you have all of the necessary plugins. If messages like the following appear:
err:gstreamer:unknown_type Could not find a filter for caps: video/x-ms-asf err:gstreamer:watch_bus decodebin0: Your GStreamer installation is missing a plug-in. err:gstreamer:GST_Connect GStreamer failed to play stream
then you are probably missing the necessary plugins.
If no such messages appear, please attach a full log with +quartz,+gstreamer,+strmbase.

I did not see the message Your GStreamer installation is missing a plug-in but i did see a wine critical message. I added the log file to the attachments.

--- Comment #7 from Zebediah Figura z.figura12@gmail.com --- Thanks, looks like a bug in upstream gstreamer somewhere. I'll try to take a look.

--- Comment #9 from Lunknown SolisX007@yahoo.com --- Hello Everyone,
In Metal Gear Soild 2 on wine 4.0 i can see 2 black bars with gray in the middle of the screen where the movie is suppose to play. I can hear the sound of the video playing but not the video.
Also i will attach a backtrace of Silent Hill 4 because it also crashes when a movie is about to play.

Does the bug still occur with wine-5.11? Test only Metal Gear Solid 2.
I just tested Metal Gear Solid 2 on wine-5.11. The intro video starts to play but then just freezes after the komani logo. I can still hear the music playing in the background though. I will attach a video of the problem so you can see it for yourself.
If Silent Hill 4 still has a problem, please open a new bug report for it.
Ok. I will make a new report for Silent Hill 4.

Did you try with a prefix wine prefix?
I'm assuming you meant a clean prefix. I can't game crashes without native dsound files.
Please attach a console output.
I will upload it here. Look for MGS2-wine-5.11.txt.
