Summary: Gameplay slows to an unplayable level when it rains Product: Wine Version: 0.9.49. Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: smackdat1@gmail.com
When outdoors in Oblivion using Wine 0.9.49, rain causes the game to slow down to below 0.4 FPS. Even after it has stopped raining, the slowdown lasts for a while. The only way to get around it is to wait until the rain stops using the sleep button. This workaround will not work if the rain is plot driven and will not stop until you complete a quest, if there are enemies nearby, or if you are trespassing.

--- Comment #1 from Vit Hrachovy vit.hrachovy@sandbox.cz 2007-11-18 05:18:19 --- Hello, I cannot confirm this. Rain doesn't affect FPS on my testing system.

Do You have regedit settings EnableGLSL=yes and OffscreenRenderingMode=fbo ?

0.9.49 is the first version I've tried it in, I'll try doing regression testing later. Yes, I use all of the recommended settings in the howto, switching to pbuffer gives the same results.

--- Comment #4 from Ben Slackin ben.slackin@gmail.com 2007-11-27 21:17:35 --- This is just a comment from someone who had the same problem in the past. I "solved" it by buying a better video card. With my new nVidia GeForce 7950 GT the rain does not slow the play down very much. A workaround is to turn off rain in Oblivion.ini with the bPrecipitation=0 setting.

--- Comment #5 from Jordan M smackdat1@gmail.com 2007-12-01 23:51:43 --- I'm unsure if it's caused by the rain itself or an event that occurs while it is raining, as occasionally the rain does not slow the game down at all, but it usually does. to work around it I type fw 00038eee,1 into the console (~) to change the weather back to clear.

--- Comment #6 from Ben Anderson roothorick@new.rr.com 2007-12-15 07:47:08 --- I think this is specific to GeForce 6 series cards. My 6200 is exhibiting the same problem.
