Summary: Getting "fixme:mountmgr:harddisk_ioctl unsupported ioctl 70020" when trying to start CoD4 Product: Wine Version: 1.1.3 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: steffen.linux@gmx.de
Hi,
I've installed CoD4 and tried to start it...but I only get the error mentioned in the summary, so I patched the game to 1.7 and tried again...but same error as above.
The game says that I've to insert the correct DVD, but the DVD is inserted into the drive, it is mounted and it's an original DVD.
Operating System: Ubuntu Hardy Hereon 32 Bit

--- Comment #1 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2008-08-28 14:34:46 --- Please attach complete terminal output of running the program. Including the command line used to start it. And the current directory. Also make sure you have your CD-ROM mapped in winecfg. And that you have read access to it's device.

There it is ;) I've full read access to the DVD (I've installed the game from it btw.)
The DVD is mounted correct. Drive is mapped correct...when I start the game I can hear and see that CoD4 is accessing the drive...(greenLED / noise from the drive)
Other CDs and DVDs are working correct...

This is not what I asked: Also make sure you have your CD-ROM mapped in winecfg. And that you have read access to it's device.
What does this command return? ls -la ~/.wine/dosdevices

I meant that with "Drive is mapped correct"
and "Other CDs and DVDs are working correct..." -> the other CD/DVDs are games (BF2/BF1942)

here it is...so you don't think that it is an error caused by a copy protection?

--- Comment #10 from Richie listmail@triad.rr.com 2008-08-30 21:53:34 --- I'm pretty sure this is a result of wine not supporting the CD-ROM protection, at least its the specific version level. This problem shouldn't be specific to COD4 as I've seen these errors with other protected games in the past. COD4 still requires a hack .exe work around.

I also get this with RTKXI, and the usual sources say Safedisc 4.81 for both games.

I cannot start the game either, but not for the same reasons. I did a clean install in a new prefix with Wine 1.1.7 & Ibex, but the game does not get beyond the first logo appearing. According to the howto COD4 does not require tweaking in order to work. I am not using Punkbuster, only the single player game. I have attached a log of the error. I putted it here because I cannot start the game neither, but if it needs to be separate, then I will repost the information in a new bug report.

I've played COD4 with NOCD crack and it worked fine (I've finished the whole game under WINE). The game runs 100% correct (no graphical glitches except for those in bug 16641, full performance).
IMHO this bug should be renamed to non-working copy-protection, as someone earlier said.

Hi Ken, there is still the same problem in wine 1.1.31 as originally reported in comment #0, i.e. console is flooded 3849x by:
"fixme:mountmgr:harddisk_ioctl unsupported ioctl 70020"
and then followed by windows message:
"Please insert the correct DVD-ROM, select OK and restart application".
Both this messages gone, if i use cracked exe. BTW: CoD4: Modern warfare uses as copy protection SafeDisk v4.81.000 (DVD) and as such this bug report should be marked as duplicate of bug #219.
