Cadsoft's Eagle 3.55 schematic entry and PC board layout program crashes when
switching between schematic entry and board layout screens.  Sometimes also
when maximizing those windows.  Ideally the application should swap between the
two windows whenever the "switch views" icon is clicked.  An early version of
Wine (0.9 era) failed to do that, but at least it didn't crash, and a work
around was to bring up the desired window from the task bar.  Newer Wine
releases just crash the application no matter how the windows are swapped.  The
reported error is:

The instruction at 0052283f referenced memory at 00000008
The memory could not be read from

Though there are newer versions of Eagle, 3.55 was very popular and somewhat
easier to use than later versions.  The copy I have is a licensed version that
does larger circuit boards, though the problem seems to exist with the freeware
version too.

The oldest version available for download is at
ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/eagle/program/4.0/ 4.09r2e.exe and with wine 1.1.18 + with
the patch from bug 15069 works for me. Can you check with a downloadable
version and see if it has the problem. If not check with the cadsoft support
news group and see if they can post a link to your version for testing.
Also do you have compuwiz disabled? And try in a fresh wine prefix.

Thank you very much for your help and information Paul.  Unfortunately, I'm a
Linux newbie.  I looked at bug 15069 but don't know where the patch for it can
be found.  I also have several other programs that do run successfully under
Wine and don't want to risk breaking something with me incorrectly applying
patch. No idea what compuwiz is and not sure what you mean by a "fresh wine
prefix".  Looking around at various bugs, there seems to be quite a few people
experiencing a similar problem with a number of different programs.  I'm
curious - if this seems to be a fairly wide spread issue, why wouldn't it be
fixed in a future Wine upgrade?

I have obtained eagle v3.55r3 from cadsoft and can confirm it fails as
described. Ubuntu 9.04 does not like compiling older then wine-1.0 rc3 or wine
3499cb96b69d
Fixing that compile problem only works to about wine-0.9.60.
Testing with wine-1.1.24 I can swap using the task bar but get the error
whenever the mouse over pop up hint is activated on any of the tool bar icons.
I can supply traces and the application demo should be able to be obtained via
private mail.

months. Is this still an issue in current (1.2-rc2 or newer) wine?

No response in 650 days => abandoned. If this still an issue in current (1.4 or
newer) Wine, and you can provide the needed information, feel free to reopen.
