Perhaps this should not really be listed under "major" - it doesn't seem to be a "show stopper".
For the first time ever there were problems in compiling and installing WINE from source (I've been doing it for years and verson 0.9.59 went OK). I think the compile went OK and the problem was with the install: ./tools/wineinstall
I'm running Fedora core 5 (I know it's old) on a Thinkpad T30.
The install never finished ... I tried a couple of ^C's & when nothing seemed to happen I finally killed the window.
The programs I've tried to run seem to run OK, but load VERY slowly. Especially program WXtide32 loads a LOT more slowly than before.

Looks invalid to me. Have you removed ~/.wine directory?
What exact commands have you run? Compiling Wine doesn't run it. Attach (do not paste) complete output in the future.
Repeat this time removing your compile directory. And running 'configure && make depend && make'. wineinstall script is depricated - do not use it.

This time I followed Vataliy's suggestions and found no problems - except that it takes 30 seconds for the little program WXtide32 to load. But it seems to run just fine (with the exception of the window problem reported under bug 2527).
deleted wine 0.9.61 directory & untared the file .... again tar jxvf wine-0.9.61.tar.bz2
did NOT delete the ".wine" directory
changed into the directory cd wine-0.9.61
typed (as NON-root) ./configure && make depend && make
..... had lunch :-) .....
got message "Wine build complete."
sudo make uninstall sudo make install
seemed to go fine & no error messages
