Summary: Wine Midi Mapper takes preference over TiMidity, stopping midi playback in some cases Product: Wine Version: 0.9.35. Platform: Other URL: http://www.clickteam.com/webftp/files/tgf2/Demo/TGF2Demo .exe OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-multimedia AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: philip.kent@ntlworld.com
If like me you use TiMidity to play MIDI, especially with Wine, no MIDI would be played back unless the application lets you pick what MIDI Mapper you want to play back on (such as Noteworthy Composer, I can put the Wine Midi Mapper into Disabled, and put one of the TiMidity options into Enabled). This is because the Wine Midi Mapper takes preference over TiMidity.
Users should have option in winecfg to adjust the default playback/recording device for each category (so it could also work for Wave playback for example). This could be done with a button called Make Default, which makes the device the default device for that category.
This way, I can set TiMidity to be the default device for MIDI playback, and then I can play MIDI from all applications, not just ones that have the option to set the playback device.
(The URL shows an application that is affected by this bug, if I was to set MIDI playback in it, it would not play as it goes through the Wine MIDI).
