Error logfile reported by Wine.

Both EQ5 and EQ7 run OK with Wine 1.6.  The latest version of this application
EQ7 crashes on start up.  The log reports a deficiency in Wine.
Using Kubuntu 12.04, 386 32 version. Program EQ7 runs perfectly on Win XP.

EQ7 requires activation by on line connection to the Electric Quilt Co.  This
step and de-activation are working perfectly with Wine 1.6.

So it works in 1.6 but fails in 1.6.1? What about latest 1.7.14?

No, it has not worked for me at all, regardless of Wine version. I have the
previous versions of EQ, EQ5 and EQ6 working OK on Wine, but EQ7 loads OK, will
activate OK, but then crashes.

Correction to a typo in my first report. First line

I think perhaps you misunderstood Mr. Cooper, or missed his typo correction in
Comment #3. This is not a regression in Wine. Previous versions of the Electric
Quilt application (EQ5 and EQ6) work with both Wine 1.6 and Wine 1.7, but the
most recent version of the application (EQ7) does not work with any version of
Wine. Thus, I don't think a regression test would reveal anything.

My wife is also a quilter, and this application is the only thing preventing me
from completely expunging Windows from my home. Electric Quilt's
licensing/activation/phoning home policies and implementations irritate me even
more than Microsoft, but unfortunately, their product does not appear to have
any real competition.

I take it activation works with 1.6, but not starting the application?

Does this have a public download/demo available? I found

According to Mr. Cooper's original bug report and comment 4, yes: EQ7's
phone-home activation process succeeds with either Wine 1.6 or 1.7, but the
main application crashes during startup.

I have not been able to locate a (legal/licensed) trial or demo of this
application. I have not attempted to find a cracked/"warez" copy of the
program, but assuming such exists, it may be useful for troubleshooting (since
the problem(s) doesn't appear to be connected to the license activation
process).

I have not yet attempted to replicate these results myself, because (1) EQ's
licensing/activation rules make it impossible to test under Wine without (at
least temporarily) disabling the application on Windows, and (2) this is the
only application for which I am interested in using Wine at present, so when I
saw Mr. Gordon's report that it's broken, I didn't bother setting up a Wine
environment. I will attempt to free up a license to use for testing (on Ubuntu
AMD64 or Fedora x86_64) in the next week or two.

The website is working now, but the product is almost 200 dollars. Without OP
responding I would say this is abandoned bug.
