It caused a fatal error with my update program. I'm usin Ubuntu 9.04. I can't
even look at the list of programs available.

This is a major failure of your software management system. Please check for
broken packages with synaptic, check the file permissions and correctness of
the file '/etc/apt/sources.list' and reload the software information with:
'sudo apt-get update' and 'sudo apt-get install -f'.

This is certainly not a Wine bug, as it pertains to package management on
Ubuntu, and should be closed invalid. There are other support channels
available for problems like these.

The bug was caused by the instructions on the update WINE page. I followed the
instructions exactly like they are posted and THIS bug occured afterwards,
therefore it is A WINE BUG.

Where is the bug in Wine?  No one else has reported a problem with the
instructions.

Those packages are put up by volunteers. Wine itself only provides source code.

That said, no one else has yet complained, so likely the problem is on your
end. If you can show it's on wine's end, please show so.
