I tried running the XCom UFO Defence game. On execution a black screen appeared, it doesn't respond to input etc. I switched away to my second monitor. I switched back to the first. Upon switching back to the first Wine instantly crashed. The debugger log is attached.

^^ That is the problem, your X doesnt have 320x200 display mode configured. Modify your xorg.conf to enable it (I've had same crash and could not solve it for a long time until now, just had to generate a modeline for 320x200 mode and add it to xorg.conf, now I can play UFO Defense fullscreen).
